I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.......We moved from Hampshire to Essex 4 years ago (between Colchester and Clacton) and it was the biggest mistake we've ever made. We had a very nice detached period (Tudor) house but that didn't make up for the fact that a good percentage of the people we encountered (especially on the rare occasions that we ventured into Clacton) were chavvy and awful :( Clacton is full of elderly ex-Eastenders who delight in mowing you down on their motorised scooters and I personally wouldn't have felt safe walking round town alone as many of the population seemed to have a real attitude problem - and I'm not being snobby! Frinton-on-Sea, whilst having a bit of a reputation for being populated by nimbies, is a much nicer, more refined place and Colchester too is ok..........but we couldn't wait to get back to civilisation and a bit of culture in Wiltshire!
You can't buy a 2 bed flat in Essex for £90k in anywhere I would consider decent. The cheap areas are cheap for a reason, I imagine it is the same in Wiltshire. You chose to buy in an awful area and for the record I include Colchester in that too.

ladies and gentlemen........the delights of walkden in manchester :D

seriously, its not that bad, walkden itself is tiny so most places that call themselves walkden are infact little hulton and claim to be walkden to appear more desireable, this place actually is walkden, the key is to find places around the bolton road area, or the swinton side of the A6, as once you pass the town centre on the A6 it quickly becomes little hulton (as i understand it)
Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?

Pembrokeshire....would go there like a shot!

Last time I checked there was nothing within our price range.

We've had people interested in the house and three viewings; however they wanted land and/or pool and/or sea, so I don't quite know why they are looking in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I guarantee that the first person through the door who genuinely wants a traditional village house in the mountains will buy it.

For those wih might be interested, or know someone who might be, here it is: We are negotiable on price.

Oh your Spanish house does look lovely- glad to have been helpful suggesting Southport! It's where I grew up and my parents still live there. It is a nice town with lots of lovely flats (because there are so many massive houses that have been divided up!) and not very many 'bad' areas, if you have any questions pm me and I'll try and help.
  • I have been to Southport once years ago, it seemed OK. It's near the sea and quite accessible to the West Midlands where our son lives in our other house and all our friends are. We will probably look at it while we're here in the UK(until November). Thanks again!

Also other places like the southeast coast mentioned, and Carlisle (which we know reasonably well - the countryside is lovely there). We will also consider these, although the southeast ones are difficult to get to from the West Midlands. Also my husband will have to be persuaded to go very far North as he says it's too dark :)

I must admit though, Pembrokeshire would be our favourite.

I've heard there's been a lot of regeneration in and around Margate - with more set for the future. Might be worth considering.
