I don't know what area you are looking for but here in Ayrshire, Scotland there are a lot of places for that price and lots of the towns are near the sea like Ayr, Troon, Prestwick and Largs.0

We think we know where we are going to buy, but just as a matter of interest, what else can people come up with for £85k or less? There may be a property/area out there that we have never thought of!
Essentials: at least two bedrooms and if a flat must be ground floor.
Not a mobile home or chalet. No shared ownership. No retirement flats.
Anything else considered.
Thanks all!

Buckhaven?
supposedly the cheapest "seaside" housing0 -
Carlisle.
Handy for the Lake District, Solway coast etc, but without the Lake District prices.
Good links to the motorway and rail network to the north, south and east.
Should be plenty in your price range.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I would go for a park home, very nice settings and not expensive. Also cheapeast band council tax. But you need to pay annual park fees.

I wouldn't buy a £85k flat in Bristol if I were you. A 2-bed in a good area in Bristol is around £250k, so guess what the areas are like where you can buy for £85k.
If you are not bound to a particular area by work considerations, I'd go for up north or somewhere in the country (a market town in yorkshire, perhaps). Or Cornwall. Anywhere where prices are low due to local employment being paid below-average and it's difficult to travel to London from.0 -

If you fancy a move down South...

Rather close to a large power station (that is likely to expand in the near future) but near the sea and the fantastic Quantock Hills!
The main part of the Manor house is used for holiday lets, but is rather impressive.

How can you bear to leave, that looks fabulous.
No way would I be swapping that for Jaywick or Blackpool!
It is gorgeous, isn't it? Terrific views and friendly Spanish neighbours, in a village where the traditional ways are still in force.
We did not want to put it up for another couple of years, but the market is so depressed we thought we would NEVER sell it if we did not do it now, and it was never meant to be a permanent move.
We lived there permanently for five years, and the last three have done half-and-half.
We will miss it, very much. However, we know that area very well and will rent somewhere for a couple of months in the winter.(AKA HRH_MUngo)
