Which London Borough are you in? The shared accom LHA rate for Hanmersmith and Fulham is £123.50; central London may be even more.
Lambeth and their website said I'd get £85.60.
it's shared kitchen and bathroom... the rest is 10 separate bedroom/bedsits...Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
what I actually said: "I am more than qualified plus I am also applying for anything else I can find that links with my experience but no joy so far!"it has to link otherwise I'd be committing fraud and I'm not going to work as a business consultant job when I have no idea how to do that... sorry for being an honest type person.
And the excuses begin....
No, it actually doesn't have to link and you would not be committing fraud applying for a job you've never done. Anyone can apply for any job they like whether or not they have any experience of it or not. I left the Army as an electronics engineer. I became a lorry driver and had no experience of it. I didn't have experience for any job I applied for for the first few years of leaving school which is similar to virtually the entire population. The only time there is any fraud is when you lie about your experience and qualifications.
And once you have been on JSA for 6 months, the DWP demand you apply for any and all jobs you fit the criteria for whether or not you have experience of them.try reading the other posts... and what is wrong with working in my field which consist of skills that cover a very large area! I even have 3 CV's!
What is wrong? Well if you can't find a job and can't afford where you live, I'd say that it was wrong to stick to your field.
And you have 3 CVs? What relevance do you think that has? I can knock up 300 should I choose to.0 -
I don't know whether you've come across this scheme. It wouldn't suit everybody but can be an excellent thing for those it does.

and yet private housing is double the rent and is less space for the cost and landlords don't have to fix anything... we constantly have no water (let alone hot water), toilets blocked, washing machines broken (10 people using it ... so no wonder!)
my friend got a one bed flat with an housing association for £90 per week and he only has to find £5 extra from housing benefits (he recently had to sign on as well... he has family up north so he may move back up there) but it did take him 15 years on a waiting list to get that.. I have no chance... I have a dream of living in a one bed flat.. actually a studio would be nice... daylight, kitchen and a bath are my current dreams... I'm not joking either!!!
worse off if have mortgage as no help from start you have to wait some time before getting anything where as if rent benefit applied from start but yes does seem daft given private rents higher and mortgages usually lot less that rent would be .I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Sorry to hear of the situation you find yourself in. I am surprised a landlord can provide accommodation like it even - ie 10 people sharing a kitchen and bathroom is so overcrowded that its illegal for them to do so.
Errrmm....just one point I would make here and I DO fully understand that why indeed SHOULD you move away from your friends. But I do think its wise to be clear that this ISNT a "temporary recession" that we are all in. This is WAY bigger than a recession and its going to get worse and will carry on for a long time. Its going to be a long and VERY bumpy road for our Western societies before they come out the other end and I wouldnt bet on things improving any time in our lifetime. "Business as normal" is over (not just temporarily suspended) - and I dont like the idea one little bit - but its wise to plan in the somewhat longer term than "I'll get a job soon - bound to.." and investigate other areas as to their rent levels and level of housing benefit paid and see if there are any where there is a "match" between the two.
Think you said you are 40? - which is the only blessing in this if so (ie you are over 35 - so should be paid sufficient rent to cover a one bedroom flat). You will make new friends if you move - so I do think its worth looking into. I may be wrong - but its my understanding that housing benefit rates these days are set to cover the cost of the lowest priced third of accommodation? So - in theory - it should be possible to get somewhere that the Council will cover the full cost of rentwise.0 -
I quoted your post word for word.
And the excuses begin....

You can commit fraud and lie to people all you like but some people have morals and beliefs so I will not do what you do! of course I had no experience when I left school yet managed to do a variety of (highly) skilled jobs since so I don't understand why you insist that suddenly I'm useless and others say I should make myself homeless and drop my friends and home for the sake of £30 a week which I can easily make up with part time odd jobs anyway?
you have not helped in any way except twist things... you did not quote me ... I think you'll find people get jobs that they have knowledge off and are capable of doing - or do you work in jobs that you are completely incapable off which is probably why standards have fallen and everyone around you has to undo your errors and do twice the work!
I can find a job where I live and can afford where I live - I have yet to say otherwise... being out of work for one month (well actually I'm freelancing at the moment but that's coming to and end or may continue in another months time) and asking one question on a forum to see what others do is not a request for you to make assumptions and be completely and utterly unhelpful!
I do not have to do what you say just because you have not managed to find a skill in any area! that is your problem... anyone can be a lorry driver if they have a driving licence. and I dread to think what your cv looks like... many companies would not employ you on that alone!
I have worked for 25 years, through previous recessions etc before so I don't see the difference this time.
asking a question for the sake of knowledge is a sign of intelligence - but I wont be asking questions on here again... can I also ask why you are trolling this forum if you are not unemployed?
excuses? what excuses... I am not moving, making my self homeless just because I asked a question on a forum... that would be dumb... what is wrong with you? I already have 3 interviews coming up and I've yet to actually sign on jobseekers! get yourself a life and stop taking your failures out on others.Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -

recessions are temporary whether they take a long time to recover but they always do... plus I do not live an expensive life and have always been frugal so riches is not something I ever look for. and if I find that I can't find work long term which I doubt it. London is huge and there is a lot of work out there ... just a lot of people applying so you just find other ways to get noticed... I've done it several times before when companies had no work yet I still apply and got several job offers that way. Only if nothing happens for ages then I'll consider moving but not after one month of part time freelancing work and asking one questions will I abandon my whole life!
the house is a huge victorian one and has been approved my councils and is also normal... I lived in a lot of areas through out my life and this is a regular house. does have 6 floors!!
unless others have actuall dropped their whole way of life, abandoned home, friends, careers and everything else for £30 a week I don't see how anyone can urge another to do this? I only asked to see what others did and yet no one has actually said... this is what I did? I wonder why?
I'll be deleting all my posts soon as I've basically had to justify my existence for £30 a week... bet no one else has had to do that... apparently I'm incapable of basic living yet I'm 40 and never had to be bailed out or been out of work for than a few weeks in my entire life so I'm not sure why I've been ripped apart on such a scale or is everyone that bitter about their own failures that they have to hate others so easily? why can't people just be decent to others (again this is not aimed at who I'm replying too as they are trying to be helpful... others on this forum are just plain awful and I would never treat another human being (or animal) in such a way!!)Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -

what he does with his free time is nothing to do with anyone else
my last job i had i had never done before and was offered the job and was expected to be up to speed as more experienced staff within 4/5 months so it is possible to get a job when you dont have the experience0 -
my last job i had i had never done before and was offered the job and was expected to be up to speed as more experienced staff within 4/5 months so it is possible to get a job when you dont have the experience
yes so have I many times... still not sure why people are assuming that I haven't?
I've also temped for agencies in work that I've never done yet had to do it at managment level without any handover... so I didn't have 4/5 months... I had an hour!
the rest is not aimed at who I'm replying to right now... just a general point being raised.
I have said repeatedly that I'm looking for anything... it has to be linked with me as a person... ie: I don't drive so I wont be a lorry driver... I don't know anything about finance so I wont apply for accountancy type work as I would be wasting everyone's time including mine! nor will I committ fraud... I have not said anywhere that I am refusing work or not looking nor have I have actually signed on to any benefits? so I'm not sure why it's assumed that I'm suddenly a benefits scrounger for my whole life?????????
I only asked a question and I am so sorry and trust me ... I will not be coming back to this website. asking one question is not a crime nor should it be an excuse for people to tear others apart... if people want to make themselves homeless and abondon their life when they don't have to then... fine go ahead and do it yourselves as it's your choice... never tell someone else to!
I'll say thank you to the people who were genuine in the support but not to the others who just made negative judgements and knee jerk OTT reactions... that is not advice... if you can't give HELPFUL advice then please do not leave any comments... If I've not known anything on a subject or couldn't offer something helpful I don't say anything... I certainly do not come up with negative random things and twist things out of context!
ps: when you say 'what he does with his free time is nothing to do with anyone else' is wrong... it is do with othes when he is being judgement and unhelpful to others... I'm just questioning that he can't find something useful/helpful to do instead of taking the iss out of others on a subject that isn't connected with if he is not unemployed... if he is unemployed then it's up to him if he had to abondon his life over it... you don't tell someone to copy your own errors!Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -

not coming back is a bit drastic is it not, you dont need to react to the replies you dont like, you can even ignore people.0
