I'm the type that pays for others so i don't think I can flip personalities...;) shame!
    I'm also not gay (I'm female :D)

I don't mind paying for myself... but in my attempt at finding out about the benefits/jobseekers system I have seemed to have discovered that I need to change my entire life in order to pay my rent via benefits for a month or two... bit drastic I think!!!
yes , its really sad that when you need the help , you cannot get it but some people .. seem to get all the help and those that commit fraud have made it harder on the rest of us

sorry didnt know you were female , but thats easier you can actually just ave a kid lol ...:rotfl:

You wouldn't have to share if you lived here! You could keep it as tidy as you like and there's a handy worktop for you to make your sandwiches on...

That worktop will more than suffice for sandwiches and it's got a fridge and everything!
Where's the toilet is what I want to know? Maybe it's a case of pee in the shower and go to a department store for other bodily functions?

Try being under 25 and unemployed, you get even less housing benefit ad eve less JSA,
when I done it i think I was around £50pw short, and that was without paying for food.

Dont think its been mentuioned but there is such a thing as discretionary housing payments
these are paid in addition to LHA, but every council will have their own criteria for granting
    it.

Maybe worth asking the council or CAB for some info about it for your area.

Can't you find a cheaper room? Yours sounds awfully expensive for what you're getting. A quick search on Gumtree finds some decent sounding things for around £60 pw. I know there are issues with raising the deposit, etc. Is there no one you could borrow a small amount of money from? Are crisis loans available for this sort of thing?

If you did odd jobs / gardening, say, I think you could easily earn £200 a week in cash and be better off than you are now. I've done it. Also, they say it's easier to get a job when you have a job. Remain unemployed for too long and you're at serious risk of losing your confidence & motivation and possibly even becoming depressed.

ETA: Forgot to say I'm in agreement with you about not leaving London (unless maybe you managed to get a job offer somewhere else).

ahh... decent sounding is one thing but trust me they will be a box room or sharing the bed with someone... I'm not throwing my belongings away either ... the room I have is an ok size... it's not that bad but I just like clean and being able to cook (food stealing and even pans/knives are pinched so you can't actually cook anything which is a pain!) I keep some stuff in my room... not much storage... only one small cupboard - I'm an expert at keeping a lot of stuff organised in a small space!

I don't want to go on the dole as it is... so not long term! gargh. I could have signed on a month ago but I'm hanging on to the point where I have no choice.. my area has a lot of 'gardeners' and odd job people... I've had to stop answering the door (out of 10 people I'm the only one who does) as there's always people asking for odd jobs!

I've signed up to a lot of websites for freelance work... and forums where I've offered to help out on little jobs etc but no bites yet.

If I got a job offer for somewhere else then sure... but I'm not moving to some random place because apparently there 'might' be a job - a reason to move is fine but not just because the recession is biting my tail for (what I hope to be) a short time period.

didn't get benefits when I left school... left at 15 and worked for £30 week ... had to pay rent/bills/travel and food out of that... but I didn't eat then! oh and I had to travel 6 hours a day to get to that job... one of the reasons why it annoys me when people assume I've had some cushy life or being picky! that job made me physically ill but I still did it for years!

thanks for the info! some real information... thank you :-)
