Horace I believe (and I could be wrong) that they use a tiny amount of electricity. I use mine all the time and it's brilliant. I do soups casseroles, chilli, curry, !!!!!ash etc in mine and I love it!'The road to a friends house is never long'0

Dare I say it but it is a Wilkinson own brand Wilko Everyday Value. It looks very much like ones by Russell Hobbs although the switch on the front is different (sturdier) it has off, high, low and auto settings - auto switches between high and low during cooking according to the instructions. I figured that if I didnt pay £7 for it then someone else would.
I acquired a slow cooker previously from the Heart Foundation Shop but it didnt really get used as the liner was metal and it didnt cook that well so I got rid of it via Freegle..I prefer cooking with crock as the food tastes better and it retains heat better.
Now I can have one of my NZ lamb shanks for dinner at the weekend (need onions and carrots from the greengrocer).
I am looking forward to using it as I can cope with a small amount of electricity being used (same as Moskie) but huge amounts seem crazy to me. This has to be the most bargainous bargain of the week.0 -
Good news, Horace, I'm sure you won't regret your purchase one little bit. What a fab price! My understanding is slow cookers use very little energy.
Like you I have a Moska but I also have an old SC a friend was getting rid of, and it's great for those long slow cooks and for making chicken stock - where you lob everything in and leave it for as many hours as it needs to collapse down into savoury loveliness.
You'll get lots of ideas from the Old Style SC recipe section.
Home early from work as there was only one person for me to see this afternoon. I'm about to get shredding - the paper kind I hasten to add! Not quite brave enough for Hypno's kind! :rotfl::rotfl:
Atta girl Souk - the next job really is on its way, and we are all visualising it with you.If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Morning Matrix (thankfully it is just about still morning).
Some frogs got eaten today - I have now joined my local credit union and deposited £1 in pennies and the five pound note:D
I have been mooching about for a proper slow cooker for ages (Moskie is good for somethings but not for slow cooking) well, I wandered aimlessly into Wilkinsons today and had a good mooch not intending to buy but storing stuff away in my head in case I need to go back to buy...my beady little eyes spotted a slow cooker. I have always been put off by the price of these as I wanted one with a removable crock pot. Well I saw one today for £7 and initially walked away from it but then I thought that as it was the last one on the shelf other than the display model then I should go back for it in case they sold out altogether. It is a 1.5ltr one which is ideal for me so now I can do my soups, stews etc in that instead of putting on a ring on the stove:cool: Having never used one are they economical to use as I don't want to stick something on for 6hrs and then find that it sucks electricity out of the wall at a rate of knots.[/QUOTE]
34 Watts and once it is up to temp, it goes on and off to hold the temp. It sounds exactly like my little one which I got a couple of years ago in Asda - also for £7. They are so like the Morphy Richards that I'll bet they are made in the same factory. Lots of recipes and tips on the web and on MSE there is a thread about them.
Once you've got used to it, you wouldn't be without it. I've got soup in mine at the moment! But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
