Dont worry Claire I was rejected twice before I got one and one of those was for a top up from my current mortgage company who I had been with for 10 years and I earn more than I had ever earned and was asking for less than 10 years previously. Have you thought about seeing an independant adviser? Find one who doesnt charge as they get commission from the mortgage companies. They are usually very good.

Don't lots of checks go against us though?

  • You shouldn't have too many credit checks in any 6 month period... did they do a proper credit check or a mortgage in principle application?

A broker is definitely a plan... see if you can find a good one x

  • Right - get copies of your credit reports and see what might have caused it.

If there's nothing in particular, remember that mortgage co's are super cautious, and it's a lot of money - so they're right to be really!
  • woah, only skim read to try and catch up and will go and read it all properly later. Been manic lately!! Hugs all round especially to TMIF and congrats to FW. Will try harder to keep up xx

I was told that the mortgage company checks dont always make it to your credit record. Would definitely recommend having a look at your record though because mine had a couple of errors on. However, I was told by the two mortgage companies that although I passed all of the credit checks they didnt think that I was a good risk!!!! Mortgage broker said that at the moment that is happening a lot, even to people who are earning mega bucks. Mortgage companies are being very very cautious. Also he told me that if you have several checks from mortgage companies as an initial offer in principle check that doesnt go against you because it is seen as good practice to check out different companies. The checks do not show that you have been declined just that you have applied in principle according to him.

    Vibes coming your way Claire.

Well lovelies I didn't get the job I applied for and the other one is till not confirmed. VERY wobbly day but have taken back control but applying for lots of other jobs tonight. Could well hear about the other one in the next few days but am just not the kind of gal to sit about waiting for somebody else to decide what happens to me and my life. Nothing much in Glasgow so applied for lots in Edinburgh.

TMIF, obviously Im going to say do lots of stuff. Why not? You can do whatever you like hon. Do take time to grieve but DON'T sit in alone in your PJ's with crisps and a dirty face for too long. See friends and maybe start thinking about some stuff YOU'D like to do for yourself. Being single is exactly what you make it either "Woe is me, I want a man" or "Sorry I cant actually meet up with you til next month as I'm just so busy". As long as you're enjoying being out and about then its grand and it will make you love the nights in on your own with a nice glass of wine even more. Take it easy and keep eating, and posting XXX
