As I posted a reply on FWs thread last night I will also put a few links here. The Welfare Reform Bill will affect a lot of people in many ways. People with terminal illness has been picked up by press as the Disability Alliance have raised the issue because DWP are writing to people on benefit to advise them of the possible changes. The bill is just that a bill, it has not yet been passed by the House of Lords however it has passed two readings and now sits with the Committee stage. The first committee scrutiny will be held on 4th October. MPs have passed the bill in the House of Commons, Committees in the house of commons made recommendations to amend the original bill and some have been made.
Article in the The Guardian on 9th Sept talks about the bill article yesterday speaks about terminally ill specifically.

    Hope that helps.

  • Wise words Souk - and sorry about the first one. The perfect one is just around the corner.

My breadmaker fell apart yesterday - the post that sits in the drive motor - well the end disc has come adrift. To replace the post they want more than I paid for the bread maker in the first place.

So I am taking this as my "Make Do and Mend" challenge - I think (from looking at the parts diagram) that I can reattach said disc with a washer and a slip ring. So I am off bearing my bread maker tin to a local motorbike repair shop where I am hoping they will have a box of bits for me to rummage through.

Daft thing is - its like one of my pets is poorly!!!

Ours broke on Monday - luckily the bitsd had just fallen off and were still in the machine so managed to put it back together so I think you shoukd be ok - have made two loaves since then:)

I am a woman on a mission - not spending £20 if I can fix it for a quid - £999 to go , remember? LOL

  • I've found the origin of MrsMoo's sig quote, and thought it was pretty apt given some of the Dragons (and frogs) we've all been dealing with recently.

  • Wow so the fact that you've been given a terminal diagnosis isn't bad enough you really now ought to die within the 12 months before the money runs out. I have accepted that cuts were inevitable but this is not acceptable.

FW can you share the BBC link please, had a quick look on the main news page but couldn't see it.

Bitsy, on my tread MrsMoo put a link to the bill itself.

It sounds like a loose connection in the wiring harness to me.

    Hi all

I am going out today honest, the road I want to use is closed due to a building fire (I have a feeling that it is the lovely old farmhouse that has been boarded up for yonks), still I can get there another way. I need to do a spot of research at the NT property I want to work at and need to refresh my memory of the place.

I was on twitter the other day when folks in Brum were on about having an elected mayor so I said that I was totally against it because money would be better spent elsewhere - as a result I am being interviewed on Monday about why we have no need for an elected mayor. I chose Monday because I will be in the City Centre on Monday night anyway so a trip in the late afternoon makes no odds to me because I know where I can do a spot of quiet work and have free tea and coffee.

    Have a great day folks.

  • Thanks for the heads-up FW, I haven't been on your thread for a couple of days.

I'd laugh (cynically) if it weren't so outrageous - sorry mate you haven't died within your allocated 12-month time frame so you can't have any cash .
  • Thanks for the links cheri x I love the full quote.

Horace I don't see the point of an elected mayor for Brum either. I mean what exactly would they be doing exactly?
