I have one of these and am pleased with it. The main downside is that the software often freezes completely - on mine this seems to often happen if you change menu options while driving e.g to look at the remining directions. This problem is well documented on various sites with reviews - I am unclear whether this is SMART ST or the unit.

The other problem in the reviews is that the unit doesn't work in all cars - particularly with special windscreens. I have a BMW which it works fine in and a Renault Megane in which it doesnt get a signal at all.

Correction to my earlier post - thanks to Withabix I now have full post code search on TomTom Nav 5 - yet to find out whether the lock up problem will go away.

Of course, reading the instructions is the last resort ;-)

The maps are included but I understand that you have to pay for an unlock key before you can use them.

I am interested in this unit but according to the navman website the maximum size SD card you can use is 512mb.

Obviously that isn't big enough for all the European maps.

Has anyone tried the unit with larger sized memory and how successful was it?

The largest card I have is a 512mb - only thing I could suggest is perhaps getting a couple of cards, put the europe main road map on one, and then for the country you need detailed maps of put that on the other card. I have full UK and europe main roads on mine which is about 200mb.

I've read on some forums (expansys and pocketgpsworld) that people have put in 2G SD cards with no problem. Don't have the unit (yet) so can't confirm this but you might want to have a hunt around. Here's an example...

My Micromaxx (Mio 168 clone) says it only takes upto 512 MB SD card, but happily works on 2Gig card, so the manual is probably wrong!

Is it any good as a PDA though or is it rather underpowered in terms of processor and RAM? I don't care about sat nav.

ohh if you don't care about the sat nav thingy then this pda isn't for you. you're better off with those HP £300 pda.

I have a 1gb SANDISK installed and it works fine. I had also read the Navman website that states 512mb max but after seeing other reviewers saying they had used 2gb and I think a 4gb in one case I decided to take the risk.
