Yup works straight out of the box. I dont know why people are charging them - they come charged, or at least mine did (and it was sealed). I assume you are using the SmartST software, I cant really help you with this as I didnt use it (had a navman a while ago and hated the SmartST software so installed tomtom straight away.)0 -

Go to a village shown on the map and once the unit has orientated itself it should work fineJoin the Sarcasm Appreciation Society.

georgiac wrote:Hi, I was going to buy one but have been told that if you load Tomtom software and use it with the batery and it goes flat, you have to reinstall all the software.
Does anyone know if this is correct?
Yes, this is true for all PDA-based systems where the TomTom software is held in temporary memory. Make sure you don't let the battery die completely and you'll be fine. Keep a back-up of your files on your PC and you'll have the option to quickly restore your data using ActiveSync in case the files do become erased.
This is one of the advantages of buying a dedicated all-in-one device instead, such as the TomTom One, Medion GoPal 210, Garmin, etc - the software is held on the device's ROM and will not be lost if the battery goes completely.0 -
I took the plunge and bought my first sat nav, cheers Withabix, it seems pretty decent and the extra features make it good value IMO, I hope to load Tomtom in the future but I'm happy for now.
Can I just ask how long it takes to find the GPS on other people's units, mine takes an age, probably 3-5 minutes but like I say, I've never had one before so I don't know if this is the norm and what factors need to be taken into account.
Thanks again OP.0 -

... and the software includes maps for Europe, which I don't think the Medion has. Now, if only I can work out how to switch it on, I might even have to instruct my son to make it work ;-)
Of course, reading the instructions is the last resort ;-)0 -
Hey Micky, it took me half an hour to find a little switch underneath the machine that needed flicking across and another 5 minutes to find the stick to do it with!
Good luck0
