Done! Trying desperately to sort utilities etc for the move but the address doesn't exist for me to do any comparisons  rang the site office to find out which company the gas and electricity are currently with and they are taking ages to get back to me, it can't be that difficult! Does anyoe have any advice on how we choose which utility company to go with? We are moving into a new house so it will just be what the building company use at the moment.
AJ: whatever you do, make sure that you have:- the plot number,
- the name of the builders and the name of the development
- Any partial postcode the builders may have used
- the meter serial numbers as well as
- the meter readings for the day you move in.
- Take very careful notes of who you speak to and when you speak to the utilities and make sure you give them all that info.
Not a good thing if they aren't :money:
I know it looks like a pain in the neck but it's also covering your [STRIKE]ar[/STRIKE] bottom. If the companies make a mess of the billing of the new estate, you can prove you've done the best you can to enable them to bill you if things go pearshaped.
One other thing: take the meter serial number as well as readings for the old house as well on the day you hand the keys back.
You could go with a comparison service but so many of them need to know consumption which is a bit of a dark art when you haven't moved in:D

Hugs, holly. Keeping fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Thanks, LW. Spoons caught and will be put to good use in a minute.
I've just finished filling in OH's employment and support allowance claim. Not normally bad with forms, but this one's a nightmare. I just need the doctor's details now and then he can sign it tonight and I'll post it on the way home. :T
Apparently some stupid person has started a rumour that OH has died. If I find out who it was I shall give him/her a piece of my mind. I suppose the text message with a request for 'going home' clothes came from the twilight zone, then...
Going to make a cuppa and then play some more with my laundry. I can't remember the last time I was so ineffective.0 -
Thanks Toots.
My landlord isn't going to just kick us out straight away because he hasn't given me 2 months notice, he does apprieciate it's not the easiest thing in the world to find somewhere else.. My tenancy's coming to an end anyway but i thought it would just be a simple renew.
In the worst case senario we could move in with OH but that would have to be the last resort. I'd be single if it was for more than a week. :rotfl:
The boys would be in the same schools, Ds1 is worried about the kids in his school now bullying him on the way home. Now he walks with a big group of friends but he wouldn't be able to if we lived in the town he'd have to walk on his own.
I think i am going to have to compromise a bit, i'm not going to be able to have it all.
The house in this village that's almost gone i will find out tomorrow if it's gone through or not so not too long to wait.
I'm off to put more washing on now and write my packing list. I can't wait for holiday now. :cool:0 -
greent, toots, short_bird Thanks for your help, feeling very confused about everything but I have found out who the current supplier is so that is a start. Gas and electricity are the things I have been very bad at price matching in this house so want to put it right, I can't make a fair comparison even going off this house because we aren't on the best one for us at the moment. I am going to use our details for here to see which would work out best at this address and maybe use that (I vaguely remember it is the same company at the new house that comes up best).
Anyway I gave up on that and started looking for a phone provider and have made matters worse. There is no line so we need to get one connected, we are considering getting sky installed (never had i but DH is desperate for it) so would just need to sort line rental but I need to check this before I ring our phone company to cancel. I would love cable but they don't have it here.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I've just taken Ds1 to his friends house in the next village and had a sneaky peek at the house i'm going to view tomorrow.
The garden isn't huge but it's not teeny tiny, the house looks beautiful from the outside. I'm just hoping the bedrooms aren't teeny tiny.0 -
aj - I had no line when I moved here so I went with virgin - broadband is fibre optic - no new line fee because I took a bigger package that was offer so have paid the same as i would have normally for 3 months and now downgraded my package when the offer period ended - does that make sense? (in other words saved the cost of connection!!)
everything crossed for you holly that would be a reasonable compromisePeace will be mine

We want tv as well and virgin don't have the tv option here. DH is on the phone to sky at the moment to see what they can do. I have a dongle for now anyway when we move.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200
