No I work in accounts and once an account is paid you can not re call the money unless on the day it was meant to hit therefore showing an in and an out. Once it's there they can not get it back or getting back over payments to anyone would be really easy but it isnt

If there is valid reason then yes a payment can be recalled.

Bacs came in about er 10 or 15 years ago from memory..my worklife memory.
I was a financial Accountant and this was not uncommon at all.

It happens several times per month where I work now.

Sorry but it can hit an account and be recalled after the 'hit'

What about the T&C of the loan agreement?

Doesn't matter, this is a 'Salary Recall' (thats how it shows on my bank statement) so can't be the bike loan directly. And they've not brought that up as a defence anyway...

The bank don't know this isn't for you - you have to tell them
An employer does have power to reverse if they have paid you and it wasn't for you. They should tell you - hopefully they would - but it is your money coming in so you'd notice if you had a payment which you weren't expecting and say something.

Tesco could get it back exactly the same way Santander did actually. :)

Tell me how it can be recalled a few days later then like what has happened here if it wasn't a bank as your employer? I have 4 years payroll exp and 20 in accounts and you can not recall a payment to anyone on the days after it has hit.

The OP here says a few days later it was taken back - ok we know the bank can do this as he works for one but an employer can not do this

But in the loan agreement there could be a clause saying if you leave the company, you must repay the outstanding debt in full.

Of court there is, but this hasn't happened to do with that. This is their error on my wages: paying them then taking them back when they notice their error.

I haven't worked in payroll ever and I did say that- so you must be correct on that.
Sorry but I only joined here last week and am unfamiliar with posters so didn't know that you deal with payroll.
I would have stepped aside much sooner - as I will now as I am sure in this case you can advise better than myself.

I have worked mainly in payments to suppliers and expense payments to staff where this does happen quite often. The closest I get to payroll now is calculating commissions.

I have never made a payroll bacs payment so therefore have never had to recall one. Payments to suppliers however get recalled often.

    Over to you! LadyMissA :)

My apologies to Naf..I am sure LMA will help you from here.

No, but you said payments can be recalled after they have hit and the original poster here said it was some days after and then I said if you worked for say Tesco and was paid on Monday only on Monday could they recall the payment not 3 days later

The same goes for suppliers too as I have worked at companies who have paid suppliers in error and you can't get them back you have to arrange for the supplier to pay you back.

I am curious how they can recall the payment though

Never have you main banking with your employer.

Unfortunately most banks insist your salary is paid into an account with them!

Just because they make an error, doesn't mean you get to keep the money!
