What a nice heart warming positive thread fior once!!
Any organised activity that involves some rules and discipline and being accountable as a team player can only have beneficial results on those who participate - plus you make some life long friends as a bonus which you appreciate even more when you get older
Hadn't really thought of Cadets before but that could be something worth looking into in a few years time0 -
Sounds amazing - you must be so proud! It's not many mums who can say their teen flew an aircraft!0

She did say she is completely shattered and will probably sleep until Monday lol. She also asked if she could do a weekend camp locally next month! talk about keen hehe
I feel so relieved that she's enjoyed it, but I can't wait to give her a cuddle now.
Glad she had a good time0 -

i can still remember doing this myself when i was in air cadets, although my favourite was the 'stall turn' - go vertical until you are about to stall flip the aircraft 180 and dive bomb towards earthDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
hi all
I have no experience of sea, air or army cadets but just wondered if it encourages them in any way to join the services as a career?
Do many who are in the youth / cadets go on to sign up?

Certainly DD had no plans to sign up, though after her flying experience who knows lol
To be honest I think her Flight Commander said it best when he said the opportunities it presents (DofE etc) coupled with the leadership skills and other life skills learned there look fantastic on a CV.
In a few weeks DD has flown planes, shot guns, learned basic mechanics, first aid and learned how to work in a team amongst a myriad of other skills.0 -
Wow and I thought being able to boast that my daughter had steered a tallship under tower bridge was good, I think that has well and truly topped my bragging rights! lol
Glad she had a good time
Oh loobs that sounds amazing though! You must be so proud!
Something that if I ever tried I'd spend the entire experience hanging over the side of the boat throwing up0 -
My son has literally just joined Sea scouts offically today, i was already pleased (i happen to love the forces and was devastated when I couldn't join the RAF due to medical reasons) but now ive read about all this camp stuff your all talking about im even more happy, and its not even me who gets to do it!!
I do have one little cadet bit I can boast about (not as cool as flying upside down or steering boats!) but I used to work for the transport department on an RAF base, my nephew who lives 200 miles away had joined the RAF cadets but hadnt been in time to go to the air tattoo with his group. He came to see me for the holidays instead, and it was when our cadets were visiting the base. I was in charge of organising all the cadets transport and got on quite well with the cadets leader. Well one conversation he informs me the schanook is coming to our base and he's going to try and get his cadets a flight, much begging and promises of cadet transport from me bags my nephew a tag along. They did go up and it was his first ever flight, and when he went back to his cadets they were all gutted as they hadn't got to fly!I have been the best auntie ever since, and that was 8 years ago lol
