finallydebtfree!! wrote:morning all! whatever happened to the weekly totals?
I had a very mse night out last night, decided I would drive (as didnt really feel upfor a night out) picked people up on the way, so they all bought me my soft drinks and I only had to pay entry to the club!
no increase in my total for the last couple of days but I did recieve 2 £10 vouchers through the post this week from cashback sites that I need to convert to cash!
I have 2 vouchers I want to convert to cash, how do you do it?Total debt May 2005 £83,232
Total Debt November 2009 £0! DEBT FREE!
Proud to have dealt with my debts

I usually ask around friends/family to see if they are going to buy anything in the shops that the vouchers are for and do a straight swap for the cash (luckily my last vouchers were before christmas so that was easy, not quite sure whether they will want them now)
Otherwise if there is something you want to buy there anyway use the voucher and give yourself the cash (eg stuff for you, or gifts that you need to buy)
Or sell them on ebay, but I would probably send them by recoreded delivery if you were to do this. (I would only use ebay as a last resort, as all the other options you will recieve the full amount of the vouchers, although most vouchers sell pretty close to their value so you wont loose that much)
I only include the amount in my total when I have converted the vouchers to cash, that way my total is cash that I could spend anywhere and in anyway I wantedfinally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0 -
Afternoon all,
Last night marked the end of the second week of the MSE Olympics, so here are the instructions on how to submit your total. Stay tuned, as that's coming up in just a moment. First, lets welcome our newest members. These guys and gals have signed up to the challenge since last week, so a big warm welcome for the following Olympians please:
bekkki1 Bronze (who signed up a fair while back, but I missed - sorry bekki1!)
chardonnay Gold
donner_kebab Bronze
GettingThingsDone Gold
glitterycloud Bronze
handbagfetish Bronze
Haughley Harridan Bronze
jo_b Bronze
kawilson00 Bronze
linniestorm Bronze

unixgirluk Bronze
Good luck peeps. PM me for any inaccuracies. We've also had another challenge upgrade:
flowerofscotland has upgraded from the bronze challenge to the silver, almost doubling their challenge target. Good Luck flowerofscotland.
This now means we have a fantastic 133 Olympians - a fantastic achievement, but we have space for so many more. Tell your friends, both online and offline, and make sure you promote the Olympics in your signature so that every MSE'r knows what we're doing!
Submitting your totals
Its the end of an intense week of Olympics. The size of this thread has grown exponentially, and anyone joining now has a frightening 1040+ posts to deal with!
To update the totals I would ask that you either PM or email me your GRAND TOTAL sometime today, and I shall endeavour to update the spreadsheet sometime in the next few days, and publish the updated results on a wednesday (admittedly I'm very late this week, but now once I've got the format of the newsletter sorted, it should enable me to produce further newsletters much quicker). To avoid confusion, I do not need your totals for just week 2, I only require your overall GRAND TOTAL.
Please note that there are currently 133 Olympians, but there is a 50 message limit on my PM inbox. As such, you may find it full. My preferred message of communication is PM, however, if it is full, my email address is philltowns@googlemail.com. Please remember to include your MSE username. If you would prefer not to use email, simply wait until I have cleared some messages from my PM inbox. I will be accepting results up until Wednesday morning, after which you'll have to wait until the following week.
I'll be publishing the results in a short newsletter, so if you have any interesting stories about your challenge, I'd love to hear them. I am also looking for an MSE Olympics logo, so if you've got a bit of spare time and are feeling a bit arty, feel free to email me your logo design.
Good luck again to all.

Yes - looks like SNR - so you need high odds on the free bet (7+) to maximise your returns. Good luck.0 -

that would require me to have £350+ in my betfair account though wouldn't it?
seeing as i can't really put that much into betfair in the moment, could i do bets on odds at 2/3 to get back part of the £50? how much would i get?
sorry for all the questions, i'm just a bit confused.:heart2:

I've just worked out how to increase my total....I need to give up smoking!!
I dont smoke a huge amount, Only really in the evening when the kiddiwinks are in bed but it equates to about 10 a day.
Problem is i dont think I'll be able to do it on will power alone. I dont smoke around my mum and all told we spent about a week there over xmas and new year and didn't smoke at all, without missing it, so I thin kit's just boredom/habit that I do it.
I know a lot of people on MSE have given up this year, any advice on the best way to do it? Now I dont drive so much anymore I haven't got the automatic get in the car and light up thing going on which will help. Do you think my doc will perscribe me patches on NHS? Or am I best off doing it without the outside help?
It should save me about £15-£20 a week so worth doing for that and the obvious other benefits - health, etc!! If I put the money in a pot for everytime I would have smoked a cigarette that should give me the motivation needed...what do you think?0 -

<snip>
Get outside help, but not from friends and family. I've never smoked, but have tried to help friends give up.... it usually ends up me being angry when they slip up. And that does more damage than it does good.
Perhaps if you put, say, half the money towards a treat, so that as well as working towards debt reduction, you know that you can, say, buy those nice shoes you've been eyeing up for the past 6 months!0
