Well i'm 5 weeks in on my sale and purchase, in a chain with 4 others. Everyone has got there written mortgage offer, 1 person signed there contract and 2 others are signing on Thursday/Monday. I'm pushing my solicitor for my contract and an exchange date, aiming to be complete before 21st November.
  • Well i finally received notification that my mortgage had been offered (on saturday) and the offer arrived this morning. Initally there was a bit of a panic as it said under the 'other conditions' that a damp survey needed to take place and remedial works done. Spoke to my broker and she phoned northern rock who said that it wasnt a condition it was a recommendation. Went to the solicitors today and signed everything. Few queries left to investigate on the water drainage search but apart from that looking to exchange next week! Paying the money tomorrow to the solicitors. I am so excited and just hope the next week goes without any major issue.

Have you exchanged??? here's hoping for you

No update on mine, purchasers still waiting for mortgage offer-6 weeks now since survey. Keep getting told there is nothing to worry about, but considering we were aiming to be moved out by the end of October, things really are trailing on now. My solicitor won't even have me in to sign contracts until mortgage offer is in place, so no dates of exchange let alone completion.
Really need to be out within 3 weeks aarrrggghhh!!
why do these things always take so much longer than you think!
  • Well for us, some of the additional reports have been written, Cavity Wall Ties, Damp and Electric. Now just got the additional one about any possible movement to be written (he was waiting to read the cavity wall tie one) and then send the lot off to the Mortgage company and hope they will say yes.

Looks like full replacement of cavity wall ties are needed (we suspect as much), and a bit of damp - but not too much and some of it is down to leaking cast iron gutters/downpipes and lowering the ground level to clear an air brick or two - some work needed on the roof as well. Electric was basically fine.

I wonder how long the mortgage company take to make their mind up once they have the reports in hand and will PDF versions be OK or will they want paper copies do you think?

Like you I want to feel like I'm moving on and have a date for exchange (OK I know that isn't going to happen just yet).

I feel for you Sugared Frog, yours has been really drawn out too, for different reasons. I can't offer any knowhow on the mortgage offer sorry. All I can do is hope for you. I'd imagine that they would want paper copies to follow but PDF versions can start the ball rolling hopefully. Just hope the mortgage company decision is a positive one for you. Keep us posted!
  • Well we were hoping to exchange today as we wanted to give notice to our landlord as our rental contract runs from the 9th of the month. However it hasnt happened the seller's solicitors didnt get back to our solicitor (not sure why). Anyway hoping it will happen tomorrow and then completion next week. But now we havent given notice our only option really is to give notice on the 9th dec to leave our rental property on 9th jan. I wondered if anyone knew when northern rock's mortgage payments are, as in what date? Because having 2 houses could be more expensive than i wished. However the new property does need a lot of work doing so more time is probably preferable. Mixed emotions at the moment.
