Do you need to gamble a lot to benefit from the players clubs? I gamble a fair bit, but not to extreme and im wondering of its worth joining. How much wouold you need to gamble, for example, to get a free buffet?

Hi All - I've booked the Mirage direct for 26th Aug to 1st Sep ! So paid deposit and can cancel if better deal comes up.

I'm going to try for a complimentary upgrade when I check in, but is there a better time to check in for this ?

I've got the option of a number of flight times to Vegas as we're coming from Philadelphia and there are about 5 direct flights a day, so wondered if it was worth checking in early (well 3pm) or waiting until later when they know what rooms are left ?

Cheers for any help - its all starting to feel real now yippee :j

I think anyone who gambles at all should join and use their card - you never know what you might get and if you're gambling anyway, may as well get what is coming to you.

As for how much you need to gamble to get a free buffet, it will vary from casino to casino...the example I know best is Harrah's properties (so Harrah's, Flamingo, Bally's, Paris, Rio and Ceasars).

There, for slot play (do not have a clue about anything else) you earn at least 1 credit for every $5 coin in...you also earn bonus credits, though they never say what the rate is for those - in most cases, I have earned more bonus credits than base credits.

Every credit is worth $0.01 in comps - can be used at most restaurants, shops, etc.

That sounds like a lot - $5 to earn $0.01 in comps...but it's based on the money you run through the machine - not the bills you necessarily put in the machine...I've played for hours on $20 before and earned quite a lot of points as that money is recycled (win a little, lose a little, win a little, etc)

Plus, the bonus credits add up quickly.

I think it's worth trying...join the club, get the freebies they offer for joining, use your card, and keep an eye on what sort of comps you have earned (the reader on the machine will tell you how many points you have)...then either ask at the players club booth or look at prices at restaurants to see what you can get.

Our rooms for 8 nights have been free the last few trips and we've also had about $250 comps earned toward meals each trip...we budget $500/day between us for gambling...last two trips we earned about 25000 points between us each trip and came back with 1/2 our gambling budget...so for about $2000 lost (entertainment money to us) we got our rooms free for 8 nights and $250 worth of meals...not too bad as we would have gambled that much anyway.

Table play is different, and so are the MGM and other casino groups (Harrah's is kinder to slot players than the others). Wynn regularly offers a special deal for free buffets with a low number of points, etc.

Regardless, we don't play for comps, but will have what is coming to us!

I really apologise for writing so much...I try to be concise, but I can't!

We use some of our comp points to book the room again (on check out day) so that we can all (whoever of us has gone to vegas) can all keep our bags cases etc in until the end of the day (because we leave about 7pm)

That gives us the rest of the day in Vegas without lugging bags/cases around.

That's impressive! Now I'm curious where you were playing and what table game you were playing...if you play for that long, may be worth getting a players club card because you may be entitled to a lot more and in a lot of cases, you can carry over comps/points earned from one trip to the next and qualify for hotel offers...since it's usually based on your theoretical loss (and not your actual loss or win) they have fancy formulas they use to determine how much you get. Worth considering, at least.

story was like this - i felt ill from the boozing the night before so planned to stay in my room (MGM) for a bit. Inevitably couldn't with all those 'opportunities' awaiting for me downstairs. I rolled up to a BJ table (min bet was 5 or $10) and played all night. I got very boozed and sometimes varied it with larger bets (a few $100 hands). Blackjack is a relatively 'safe' game to play as the odds of breaking even are pretty decent - for those of you who aren't familiar with strategies check out:

there was obviously luck involved but I must have bet a shed load of cash across the night and when the lads bowled in, and the clock ticked around to 9am, i said to the pit boss (who i'd been talking to most of the night), how about some free comps.

She suggested breakfast - off the lads went to fill up, and off I went to bed knackered but richer. I can honestly say it was one of the best nights of my life. Forget the money, I met so many people and had such a great laugh I only hope I can repeat it when I'm over there in November.

lost about $500 following night :(
