Miles plus money fare brings it down to £335 altho you cant get back after the 13th at the moment (to early), if you dont have any miles £35 will buy you enough for a flight. altho their terms and conditions may have changed, others on here have still done it that way.

Thanks loads for your reply!! Thanks for the heads up about buying some miles and using them towards the miles plus money. So that works out about £373 for the flight each, and that seems to include Saturdays too, that seems a bargain!! We were expecting to pay about £550 for a direct flight which was what our first Virgin search came up with in another month, so I'm well chuffed already!! I have had a look at the terms and conditions and cant see anywhere that we cannot do it this way. So I think we will wait until early New Year, and if no sales on, then book it this way. Then I can concentrate on the accomodation...show tickets...Fingers crossed it all works out!! Thanks again :D

    Number 15 on the M+M T&Cs says:

"Buy and/or Gift Miles cannot be used to purchase Miles Plus Money fares unless previous earning activity is evident in a member’s account."

    http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/frequentflyer/milesplusmoney/tsandcs.jsp

It may still work, but if you are going to buy the miles I would do so with the assumption that it may not - at least that way you'll be really happy if it works, and not as disappointed if it doesn't. :)

The other option might be to get a Virgin credit card as the T&Cs don't seem to suggest that you can't use miles earned on the credit card to book M+M fares.

You can earn 3,000 miles just for opening the account (white) and making one purchase here:

    http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/gb/creditcard/index.jsp

So will depend on how much you would use the card before you booked the flights as you would need 4,000 for 2 M+M fares.

The black card has a pretty high annual fee, but you would earn 6,000 miles for opening an account and using it once...and you do get double miles from the white card. We went with the white card as the benefits of the black card didn't seem to outweigh the annual fee.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

We've had this dillema before on here. In July I did M&M without any previuos activity no problems, but then the terms might have changed since then.

Thank you for this suggestion. Do you think it would be possible to get the white card and spend on it to get the 3,000 points, then as I have got 'previous earning activity' I could buy the remaining 1,000 points for £30 without breaking the terms and conditions? At least then I wouldnt have to worry about them picking up on it?? Thanks for all of your help!!

Not sure anyone here can tell you that Virgin are the only ones who could confirm or deny, but then you may not want to bring it to their attention.

As GT said he did it earlier this year and friends of mine went earlier this year (booked last year) and were told to do it over the phone by the Virgin sales team.

BUT I dont think any one on here knows when or if the terms changed

there are over 100 pages on this thread about the very thing you have just asked, so where else do you want people to lead you to:confused:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    My hands are up!

Impressed about your restraint though - I have the cases out of the loft a minimum of 2 weeks before and am completely packed a minimum of 1 week before...my husband on the other hand.......;)

Have a great trip! Can't wait to hear about it.
