If you're going to see Spamalot at Wynn then wrap up warmly. We went to see it and the theatre was FREEZING!! Mind you that didn't stop me nodding off and I missed yet another Vegas show. Put me in the dark and with jetlag I'm zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Well - its that time already. We leave for Vegas tomorrow staying at the Mirage. Thanks for all for their hints and tips on this thread.

One thing I guess I should have asked earlier........flying with Virgin and checked in online now and chosen my seats......does that reduce my chance of an upgrade?

How exciting - have a great trip!

As for your question, we always take the Sunday flight, always use twilight check-in the Saturday afternoon and they have never had any PE seats available (even to pay for the upgrade - we've asked out of curiosity a few times). That's not to say that they never exist, but in our experience it's highly unlikely I think - the plane is normally sold out. We always fly back on Monday and they sometimes have a few PE seats to upgrade for a fee, but a few weeks ago they only had 2 and that was at 11:00 - so 5 hours before the flight.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Anyone got any good tips for travel insurance? Fly out on the 10th for ten days - this will probably be my only holiday for this year (ie up to next December).

Seen some deal for £15 odd but I guess you generally get what you pay for. Any recommendations though please?

Also I only have a Cirrus card - can these be used in the US at many ATMs?

we have a annual Travel insurance policy that cost £36 each and was number one in a "which" survey. the number one single trip policy for usa was this company

as for your cirrus it will probably work , but your going to get stung with the fees. Only the Nationwide debit card is worth using for ATM withdrawals abroad. no fees whatsoever and you will get pretty much close to the real exchange rate , not the tourist rate. see the Main MSE site for info on this subject

it is a bit too close to apply and get it back before you go now. you might get the Post Office credit card back in time though. although not advised for ATM cash withdrawals you will get a no fee and a the real exchange rate for purchases. best to go with Travelex and price match for $ before you leave . you can find many posts on how to get the best possible exchange rate using the Travelex price matching policy.

have a great time ...where are you staying ect ??

    Hi Trets,

Who are these flights with - I presume Thomas Cook now (previous My Travel)? Good prices then!
Im planning on watching the Hatton fight via Sky Pay Per View, but that price of £167 is fantastic for someone with annual leave to spare!!! Even if you cant get tickets for the MGM the atmosphere over there would be unbelievable!!!!

Glad to see your fully back with us now!

yep thomas cook.the no availabilty on Dec 5th is almost certainly due to the Ricky Hatton fight

i would be there in a second if i had the time and cash. okay you might not get tickets to the fight but imagine watching in a sports bar over the road ect. :D

Hi Thanks for the help. MAy well go with one of those policies on that site (the comprehensive one) - gives me proper amount of cover in case my money goes missing!

Staying at TI with a couple of mates who both went last year and said it's fantastic, so will be able to rely on their experience from last year :) First holiday since 2005 (when I had a weekend break), and first holiday longer than 3 days for 6 years so looking forward to it. Along with christmas close down it gives me about 4 weeks off work! :T

Everyone says vegas is excellent so getting excited already!

Cant get a post office credit card really as credit file is a bit bad, but PO looks like the best place currently to get some cash and travellers cheques. Guess if I lose out on $10 from a $1000 dollar transaction its not the end of the world...
