I wouldn't want to shell out for miles and then find I couldn't use them..

You can register with Flying Club without having to shell out for miles. Once registered then use the Miles + Money search on Virgin website to get prices to see if worthwhile purchasing any miles. I have only just registered and it shows i have no miles at the moment but allows me to search the Miles + Money prices.

    Thanks both.

Sorry ferf, that was a typo. It should have read LGW - LAS not MAN.

We still have to get from Aberdeen to LGW and search out a hotel at the airport. Will have to have a search on here to see if there's anything about airport hotels.

Think I might just sign up for Virgin's Flying Club so I can see what it's all about.

so the Riviera (I know it's ancient (all I've read is its one of the oldest hotels), and admittedly I'd like a powershower, but ah well maybe it'll surprise me) at $157.99pp based on 3 sharing a standard room, that's about £77.50 (£25 a night, excellent).

I think you can get pretty much those rates booking direct with the hotel if I've got the dates right...worth looking at at least...they'll only require a one-night deposit at the time of booking - most 3rd parties require full payment up front...also, you could book something now and still cancel the hotel later if your plans change...Riviera has a $14.99 cancellation fee so long as you cancel before noon PST 2 days before your arrival. So at least you could get the hotel booked while you consider your options and plans...a lot of hotels appear to be sold out already, so may be best to book soon as esq suggested.

For hotels at Gatwick I like www.holidayextras.co.uk - we've found that lately the prices for the Hilton (which is the one connected to the south terminal Virgin flies out of and the one we prefer because we are lazy and don't want to worry about transfers) are normally the same as booking the Hilton direct - but we previously got some really good deals there for what was LeMeridian (now Sofitel - connected to the north terminal)...there are loads that are cheaper though.

Join Virgin flying club and buy them from Virgin.

They are Virgin air miles, everything is explained on their site. I think it is still £35 for 2000 miles which is the amount you need for an economy m + m flight

Hi – any help would be greatly appreciated.

Two people wanting to fly from Manchester to Vegas on Sunday 29 June 2007 returning on Sunday 13 July 2007 – 14 nights total BUT only want to pay a deposit now JUST IN CASE WE CANT ACTUALLY GO!!!

Sounds silly I know – but this way if we do go the flights are sorted.
Last year I did this with Airtours – balance payable six weeks before departure – wasn’t a great fan on My Travel due to stop over in Glasgow, but you cant have it all can you?…..

I have done my own searches and My Travel are around £1,100 for two (£150 deposit), BMI – are £940 – but you have to pay in full at mo…

    Does anyone have any ideas?

PS – I have posted this on Vegas Thread & general on purpose – hoping to get advice from both groups of readers…

    Thanks.

I'm sure that someone at LVTalk posted something awhile ago about booking with expedia.co.uk and paying a deposit with the remainder to be due closer to departure...may be worth looking into, but I have no idea what the terms are...it may just be a way to spread the cost and not to actually have the ability to cancel later.

The other option would be to buy refundable tickets from the airline...but that's obviously really expensive.
