    MY TRAVEL

    flying this wednesday (22/8) = £214 !! for 14 nights

    this sunday ( 26/08) = £214 for 14 nights £267 for 10 nights . £332 for 7nights

    29/8 = £258 for 14 nights and £267 for 11 nights. again 7 nights are more expensive at £332

all september flights for 14 nights are hovering between £320 and £380 . given the august prices now i would be hopeful of futher downward movement.

i think the reason that 7 nights are more expensive is that people are less likely to book 10/11/14 nights as a last min whim.

I would love to take my mother to Las Vegas for a few days, she has always wnated to go. There would be three of us and we would need two rooms, and a decent hotel. WHat is the best way to do this and how much do you think it was cost. We were thinking of Jan/Feb 2008 and between 4 - 7 days.

Jan - Feb are quiter months so a good fare/ rock bottom room prices should be very achievable. you should try to avoid the Consumer electronics show though as this is has a lot a numbers attending ( 145,000 - Jan 7th - 10th)

a sub £300 fare should be no problem with Virgin out of Gatwick. also try the Money and Miles method ( see post # 500) when the sale somes along. you can expect a sale at or around Xmas new year . download the sale alert program from Virgin atlantics web site so you can be straight on it.

If manchester is your preference then should keep regular checks on both the BMI and "My Travel" sites. again sub £300 should be achievable although you might have to leave it late with my travel.

don,t worry about booking your hotels up before your flight , as they only take your 1st night as deposit and you can get a full refund if you cancel upto about 48 hours before your stay. Post office or Nationwide card is your best payment method. check out the usual offer websites listed in this thread.

any opinions or advice on what hotel just post.

you should definatley consider 7 nights as a min though. 4 days just isn,t long enough given the travelling / amount of things to do.

Thanks, £300 air fare sounds good, I am happy to wait until a sale, and I would really prefer feb is possible. Virgin and Gatwick sounds good, not got enough miles yet to do M&M. I Had been looking and atm the prices are a lot higher.

I am used to trravel in the US, just not las vegas, I assume like everywhere else car hire is advisable.

Hotel advice also welcomed, It does not need to be on the strip, but in a 'nice' location, if we have a hire car that will also make things easier if it is off strip.

Check post 505, I explained how to buy miles from Virgin...£35 for 2000 and hey presto you have enough miles for M + M fare.

Off strip hotels..my fav is the Orleans, but others have their fav, it is really down to where you want to be and how much you want to pay.

If you stay on strip and dont want to go out of Vegas a car isnt necesarry ( I always have one but i usualy get out of Vegas on the weekend ) I normally pay about £300 all insurances included for a top of range car for 2 weeks ie chrysler 300

Can you give us a bit more of an idea what you would be looking for? 'nice' is a pretty relative term as what might be nice to one person might be a disaster for someone else...and similarly, what would be nice to another might be completely over the top posh to someone else.

Also having an idea of the age range of people who are going and what sort of things they like to do might help...also, some hotels have pools that are open year round, others don't...so it would be good to know if that is a factor as well.

If it's not a particularly young group and you're not looking for absolutely posh - I would suggest Bally's if you book a Deluxe room - booking a Deluxe room as far as I know means you will be guaranteed a renovated room which are very nice and very large...booking a classic room might mean you get lucky and get a renovated room, but you might not...the non-renovated rooms are very old and worn and so I wouldn't suggest them if you want what I would call a nice room. Bally's isn't particularly 'hopping' and that's why I say if it's not a young group of people going...but we're mid-to-late 30s and we do like it there...we're not clubbing people to begin with, but it's a nice environment and close to a lot of action.

It's probably too early for the really good deals for that period but you can get an idea of worst case scenario by going to www.harrahs.com and checking your dates there...chances are they will come down, but at least it gives you an idea what to expect.

Edited to add: checking hotel rates before booking your flights is a good idea as you may find that some weeks are dramatically more expensive than others - this usually means a bit convention or something of that nature...at least if you check hotel rates first - you can book your flights first and follow up with hotel bookings later as Trets suggested. Otherwise, you may book your flights and realise that you've booked during a particularly expensive time for the hotel you want.

I do think that staying on the strip really makes more sense unless your budget is tight...even with a car, as several have said a first trip is best spent on the strip if possible.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I've never had a car in Las Vegas (or missed having one).
If you're planning on serious off Strip shopping (Walmart/Target type shopping) or there are mobility concerns you might want to consider it but otherwise a midstrip hotel or even the Orleans with the odd cab ride thrown in for late night returns is much more economical and very easy.
Traffic can be pretty heavy and obviously you need to consider the drink/driving laws too which with free booze in all the casinos is a factor :)

  eeeekk i completey forgot The Superbowl .

it is on the weekend of Feb 3rd 2008 .although it will probably have little to no impact on your flight prices , this will push up accomidation prices for that weekend and a day or two either side.

as for hotels ferf is right you ideal is to be within the hotels target clientele. Mandalay Bay for instance is targerted at the 30 somethings , while Monte Carlo is more aimed at the older traveller. where as somewhere like California downtown is very much aimed at the hawaiian traveller for example.

you won,t feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at any strip property but you should make a informed choice to ensure you get the most from your stay . let us know where you are thinking of.

Hi i've booked flights to Las Vegas for the 28th October to the 31st October. I can't find many good hotel deals at the moment, is it to early or is this some kind of holiday week over there? A lot of the deals seem to end on the 25th or aren't applicable that week.

We would really like to be on the strip and would love to stay at the Mirage, Flamingo, Paris etc in a nice room as its a once in a lifetime trip for us.

So should I leave it for a bit or if there were any good deals for this time have I missed them already?

    Thanks in advance :D

Afraid to say you may have picked a couple of the worst nights to go for prices...30th and 31st are expensive because of halloween. there are offers for the first two nights.have you checked all the sites that show deals?

I do think you will struggle to get good deals for the last two nights, having said that if it is a once in a lifetime trip(everyone says that and then a lot keep going back and then end up las vegas nuts and posting on forums like this)and it is only four nights, you wouldnt save hundreds anyway.
