i followed the prevailing advice here (thanks) and signed up to virgin.net to get free activation, and am now hoping to migrate to metronet. virgin say they will provide me with my MAC (migration activation code) in a day or so, so fingers crossed things are going smoothly.
any advice on timing my cancellation of virgin with my application to metronet? i want to get my month's worth of access from virgin before initiating charges from metronet. but i don't want to leave it so late that i get billed for 2 months by virgin and end up paying both companies for a short time. as far as i can see virgin want 30 days' notice before cancelling.0 -
Patrick.. please could you give me some tips on how to get my MAC number from virgin..i also want to migrate to metronet, from virgin, but have emailed virgin a number of times, but they've yet to reply!!
Can you help??!0 -

I have found two services offering unlimited phone calls and unlimited download 512k broadband for £24.99 per month.
Phones4u at:
https://www.homecall.co.uk/phones4u/phones4uoffer.asp
Carphone Warehouse at:
http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-broadband-TariffDisplay?tariff=BB512&NODE_ID=6894
OneTel also offers the same package for £29.99
Does anyone have any experiences (positive or otherwise) of using any of these broadband services that they can pass on?0 -
be good to get feedback on EFH.
the prices seem best out there, but not sure about the service?0 -
I migrated to EFH Broadband and all good so far!! The set-up costs are high so probably not competitive for people who don't have broadband already, but migrations are £35.24 (£29.99 + VAT) and then £11.74 per month (£9.99 + VAT) for 512K. Working out the TCO over a 12 month period they were the cheapest that I could find for unlimited access with minimum contract length.
It is a 'no frills' service so if you pay extra if you want e-mail, webspace, etc but I use GMail which means I can change internet providers at any time and not have to change my e-mail address ;D
I suspect that they don't have a large support department (they are only providing support via e-mail over Christmas) but seem to deal with problems promptly.
I will let you know how it goes.................0 -
thanks,
just now got adsl and went with metronet as they had good reviews. and i like their pay as you go as if you dont use it you not paying the £20+ that others charge every month.
but if efh are £10 and good i will have to change after the 3 months.0 -
Plasticman, I find that you are one the fortunate few in transferring to EFH.
I had transferred over from Virgin by giving the MAC Code on the 20TH NOVEMBER.
Was informed that the service with EFH would start on 1 December.
Its now 24 days after that and STILL not connected.Neither can I access the old Broadband provider i.e Virgin.
An average of 1-2 phone calls every alternate day to EFH have not resulted in any joy.
Sincew they are only resellers from Telefonica, they dont even have access to BT support to find out whether the line transfer has taken place.
Instead they have now asked me to find out from Virgin(premium rate number helpline) whether the transfer has taken place.
Now that should give you an idea of how fly by night and small time they are!0 -
Sorry to hear that you've had problems, but it isn't always the size of the company that makes a difference. I keep hearing complaints about Tesco broadband and you would imagine that they could provide a reasonable level of support!
I am sure that people here will be interested in how this goes for you. I will be the first to provide an update if I have any problems!!0 -
Yes, the bad news is that you have to be 'invited' to join Gmail >:(
The good news is that there are often people giving away Gmail invites in the 'freebies' boards on this site. That's where I got mine ;D0
