You could add some more tinned tomatoes to try to calm down the taste.

I made chilli the other day which I felt was too hot for the children so I added a couple of squares of dark chocolate. It added a nice flavour and took out some of the fire.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0

Pop in a few squares of milk chocolate and serve with sour cream or plain yoghurt."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.

A little sugar in the pot may help / serve with rice to dilute the chilli / drink some wine or beer with your meal.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Try creme fraiche - this is the closest to the Mexican crema which is used to calm it down. Failing that, use soured cream.
Chili is acid, milk products are alkali, hence they cancel the heat of the chili.0 -
Trust me with the chilli and chocolate thing. I've started adding a couple of squares of dark chocolate (just the cheap eating stuff, not the 70% cacao cooking stuff) to my basic recipe and it really makes a world of difference. The chilli heat is still there, but the chocolate really does smooth everthing off.

wow...glad to see I am not the only one to have done this. Thanks! I like the idea of trying wedgies and mushrooms so might do that and then freeze them. If still too hot, will dilute with tomatos & beans. Might try what I did last time I made chilli and add additional red lentils for bulk
to see if that takes some of heat out.

I followed a recipe once that called for cocoa powder in chilli and it was fantastic! Either squares of chocolate or cocoa powder really make the difference to the taste (in a positive way!) Just try not to think about the odd combination and you will enjoy it - honest!:jLight Bulb Moment 4th January 2009 :eek:Started DMP 1st April 2009 :ADMP mutual support thread member: 267 :j0
