I avoided last week's programme, but the one about children and food was interesting, although some of the tests were a bit dubious ( leaving the teenage boys to self regulate food, but only allowing them 10 types of food).
there's some short videos from the show at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/programmes/?id=truth_about_food
there's someinfo on the tests here
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/humanbody/truthaboutfood/kids/
including additional tests that didn't feature in the programme
it's common sense stuff, but my 11 with asperger syndrome found it persuasive and it making a big effort to improve his diet, and is keeping a daily fruit and veg chart.:T0 -
Did anyone see it last night?
The soup thing was VERY interesting I thought - would have expected the opposite as soup doesn't seem like a meal so much, but it makes sense - and explains why we get told people that eat soup as a starter consume less calories.0 -
Yes, I was surprised by that one. What did you think about the calcium in a diet binding the fat and causing it to be excreted? A very interesting episode all round - as good as the first one, I thought.0

I missed last night's episode. Can anyone please give me a brief idea of what was said? Yours hopefully!0

It was fab - it was about diet.
Eating protein keeps you fuller for longer
Fat adheres to calcium in a calcium rich diet and is excreted - twice as much fat is excreted (rather than kept on the body) in a calcium rich diet!
Drinking water does not keep you fuller - but eating soup does - as the water is combined with the food and stays in your stomach - in the test they had two guys eating excatly the same - one as a meal with water, one with the water added to make soup, and the ones that ate soup lasted an hour longer before they were hungry!
If we have a record of what we eat we don't eat as much

Yeah, that was very interesting - I am trying to lose a stone or two at the moment, and have already been upping my dairy intake, so lets hope it works!0 -
Thought the bit about protein keeping you fuller for longer made perfect sense as I would imagine that's what The Atkins Diet is based on. (I have tried it & it's true).
Also, don't forget that they stressed low-fat calcium products for the weight loss0 -
Watched with interest, me and DP sat on the sofa with tummy bugs so didn't fancy eating thankflly, but he's been reading through loads of c*** advice on sites about diets as he's wanting to loose weight so this helped a lot!
That MRS scan was scary, has shocked me into changing my eating habits, they were not too bad but weight seems to be stuck at a certain level, we've had a much more healthy day today, even DP which is a huge shock! (Did include soup for lunch too)
Poor girl who did the metabolism test seemed very embarrassed, suppose they caught out any lies told, but her friend was so thin, to be honest I would prefer to be overweight any day than underweight, she looked poorly. One day I might be more organised...........

I know we should all be eating more fruit and veg and I for one will try, but not sure about the raw veg. It does seem to have great benefits so I am going to give it a try at weekend (not too much though). I love broccoli and cauliflower but have never tried them uncooked.
Raw cauliflower and raw broccoli should be avoided by anyone with thyroid problems. Just Google raw + cauliflower to see lots of sites which explain why.0 -
here are some links to video clips of topics already mentioned in the thread for those who haven't seen the show. some clips are extra.
Some tests and studies from The truth about food series on BBC2.
Can water make you feel full?
Water can make you feel full but only if you eat it with food e.g. a soup. In this experiment shown in the film below, they compared 2 guys one drinking the same amount of water alongside a meal of solid food, the other had the same amount of food and water together as a soup. With the soup, the whole soup stayed in the stomach, whereas with the water and food separated, the water passed straight through and the stomach was not nearly as full.

Can Dairy help you lose fat?
Low fat dairy is good. The calcium binds to fat and it is excreted. They actually show real results of calcium and how much fat is passed, using blocks of fat to illustrate how much the people who were test subjects passed in poo!!! It is amazing just how much fat they passed.
