what taxi said!
Seriously thought that is a fab achievement. One thought how about only getting 6 months car tax next time. Then the time after that get 12 months. That way your tax and insurance will eventually be 6 months apart. Gives more time to budget.
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Thanks everyone
Scarlett, was it Clapton who said you were "simply not solvent"? Those words sent a shiver up my spine for a long time after he wrote them in response to my SOA. I do feel a bit more solvent now, but it's a fragile solvency.
Taxi, thanks for the lovely message. I'm sure you will be a close second in the race to 35k.
Chev - great idea about the car tax - thanks.
I've been glowing all day having paid off my Sainsbury's card. But I mustn't be complacent. £33k is still a lot of debt to have - not to mention the unsaved-for tax issue.
I don't know if OH will be paid anything in December. His college broke up today and so he is back to delivering sandwiches for December, if they'll have him.
I got offered a job today - in the newsagent/post office two mins from my house.
The owners are friends and have obviously spotted my DFW efforts as I am in there most days posting my Amazon parcels and helping out with the DDs' paper round. The shop was busy so we didn't discuss details, I will go back at a quiet time to find out what's on offer. I wouldn't do anything that conflicted with regular work, but if it was sorting newspapers in the early morning, or minding the shop at weekends, it could be worth doing. I quite like the idea of being at the hub of the community, like a character in a soap opera!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Great news on the potential job..... who would u be? Rita or Mavis?'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0

Do you know what - I think it was Clapton yes. It certainly frightened the bejesus out of me too. I wish I could have made the progress you have this year, but it wasn't meant to be for us. You've done so well though, you should be so proud
I see you more as a Rita in the shop! You come across as too clever to be a Mavis! You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

Ooh that takes me back, I haven't watched Coronation Street for years! I hope I'd be self-assured Rita, not mousey Mavis!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Do you know...I remember Clapton was one of the first responders to my first post and he/she was straight forward, non-judgmental and very very helpful. I still see that they are round, helpful as ever, but I know nothing about them!
And Seaxwyn - I think you've missed a few posts above - this is not to ask for thanks, simply because I don't think you saw my congratulations about the debt reduction!!

Are Rita and Mavis still working in that shop? When I last watched, Mavis was marrying Derek, after having previously jilted him at the altar (am I remembering this right?)
Sea I did miss your post - I was distracted by the nappy cake one ! Thanks for your congratulations.
Yes Clapton is always on hand giving newbies really helpful and sensible advice (and frightening them where necessary). I sometimes wonder why people give up so much time to help strangers without asking for anything in return. Perhaps he/she is a dedicated debt counsellor. I don't know why I assumed Clapton was a he.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
