Or perhaps the retired ones are the DFWs still trying to pay off their credit cards!!
I have bagged £17 in change up today, with another £15 that didn't make whole bags, so that was a good start to the day. I will be taking it to the bank later in the week to put in the debt overpayment account.
I hope you manage to get a couple of billable hours work done while everyone is still in bed. What else have you got planned for the day?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi,
Pleased to hear the party went well.
On the paper round front, people are worried now so I think it can depend on the area you live in. Also, some kids have so much work and pressure on them that I don't know if they physically have the time or the energy. Especially with the GCSE's and AS and A levels having so much course work. I know friends children tended to try to get the weekend shop jobs instead when they were old enough, they seem to find it easier to fit in around coursework. For the nice shop jobs sometimes you have to put your name down or let them know in advance that you're interested.
Thanks for your post about hair yesterday, it made me get my act together! Got OH to trim the ends (he likes it long), and used a voucher to buy a book on Amazon on DIY long hair styles, hopefully it will work otherwise I checked and should get more than I paid back if I decide to Ebay itSo only some decent conditioner to go, and I've got a voucher I can use for that.
Hope you have a good day, and manage to get some billable hours in.0 -
Wow that's a lot of change, where did you find it?
I try to keep change in a jamjar on my desk but am always dipping into it so it never builds up.
No plans for today. Yesterday was quite frantic with all the bbq preparations so I'm content just to chill today. It's beautifully sunny now but the forecast says heavy rain, so it's hard to plan anything.
What have you got planned for today?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
HI se999
Glad to hear you have a plan for your hair! Since our brief chat yesterday mine has been really bothering me. It's quite short, and looks awful now it's outgrown the style it was cut in.
Although I really can't afford it, I think I will get it cut tomorrow. There is one of those 'dress agency' shops near the hairdresser so I will take a couple of dresses in there as an attempt to salvage something from the outing. I've got too summer dresses that are too young for me really - but will anyone buy summer dresses this year?
It's a shame more kids don't do paper rounds as it seems a good deal to me - doesn't impinge so much on their free time as a Saturday job. Plus they get some healthy fresh air and exercise before school. I'm all in favour of mine doing it, and not just because it saves me having to give them pocket money.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I have always, since being a child, saved small change in a jar - it is one of the things my parents always did and I "inherited" the habit. In fact, one of the best things I really did inherit from my Dad was the jar that he used to keep his pennies in (obviously I didn't get the pennies, just the jar!) and it takes pride of place in my kitchen.
Every so often I have a count up, bag it up and pay it off the debt as a bit extra. I suppose I really should leave it all year and use it for Christmas or a treat or something, but I am always too tempted to count it and bag it up!! I am quite good about not dipping into the jar unless it is a real emergency - after all this is my only savings plan!!
Today we are off out this afternoon - my BIL and his family are visiting this way from up north so hopefully the sun will continue shining and we will catch up with them.
Just a nice day, hopefully - could do with one of those!! I hope you get chance to chill today, and to recharge your batteries after yesterday.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Re the hair thing - have you seen in the weekly newsletter (look to your right if you don't get it already) that by buying Elle magazine for £3.30 you get a free voucher for a salon hair cut.
I haven't had mine cut since before Christmas due to the cost, but will be buying Elle this month if I can find one!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I did see that, but I've already had a free haircut from a voucher in the Sainsburys magazine, and I'm wondering if it's the same scheme and if so whether you're allowed to do it twice. Is it worth £3.30 to find out?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

I reckon so. At least it is a decent magazine too so you get a good read at the same time (if you can skip through the glossy ads to find the articles!!)Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hello everyone on Seax's thread...
Glad the BBQ went well - my Guardian and NT day went very well too and the day culminated in a big duck-feeding session down at the river by my house - the ducklings are all huge now (can barely tell which they are) and very very greedy!
On the hair front, I've had my hair expensively highlighted for the last few years (didn't want to see any incipient grey..) but I really can't afford it now - I've let nearly all the colour grow out now and it's not too bad - I'm quite fair anyway (well, mouse actually) so the odd white hairs don't look that different to my highlights. Actually I had a Colour Me Beautiful freebie (the training centre is near here and they wanted guinea pigs) and they told me really nicely that they thought my highlights were the wrong colour as they were making me look even more hot and bothered than I am in reality! I have to say that my skin has looked better since my hair is more my natural colour.
I'm still going to pay for a good cut though - £26 - as my hair is quite short and layered and I look awful when it's growing out.
Sorry - went on a bit there. Hope you have a productive work day Seaxwyn and that everyone else has fun.
