Thanks everyone. It's right, OH does need to move on and look forwards but perhaps I need to acknowledge a bit more that his current doldrums are not entirely due to his being useless!

He has a new career as a teacher opening up now and I feel sure he will be good at it and enjoy it so I hope that will heal the wounds.

Thanks lbt for your nice message. I hope that having some regular income will take the pressure off. My two-day-a-week thing is only short term, I think when they make it permanent it will be full-time which I don't want. Even so, it's a good thing for a while.

I have just had a lovely lunch with one of my clients, who said there is lots more work coming up, especially as they are making the person redundant whose work I am currently covering. I don't even need to feel bad for her as she is apparently is getting a good pay off and is glad to go.

On the downside I have just taken out £500 cash to pay the decorator as OH is unable to check whether the insurance money has arrived in his account yet. I had to take £300 out of my Nat West account meaning that is now overdrawn for the first time in months, I had been so proud of keeping that one in the black.

lovelybirchtrees, I just had a little hunt for your threads but can't find them. How are things for you?

I was glad to read a while back that lloyds had frozen your interest - is that manageable now? Is money coming in from your OH's carpentry business? And have you found anything to replace the lost client?

I hope all is going well and some of the burden of worry has been lifted from your shoulders.

hopefully the insurance money will be there and you can do a swift transfer back into your account.

Hello and it's great about OH's job.

I suffer from a bit of spouse resentment - I gave up my whole life (job, friends, family) to move to be nearer OH's work and kids and couldn't get another German teaching job (FE). I've also found it really hard to meet people to make friends with - all my jobs have been in tiny offices and the neighbours are not forthcoming in spite of my efforts!! I've been simmering with resentment for four years and only recently realised how horrible I've been about it and how bad OH has felt about how things turned out for me. I think I've only recently got over it all - I hate to admit how long it's taken me.

Time for your OH to get over it to, I think! I can quite understand why Disneyland didn't appeal at that time in your life!!

Sorry it's been an expensive day....

    Hi there

Julia, I'm not surprised you would feel resentment about giving up so much for your OH. And I sympathise about the not making friends. We moved to this town six years ago and I found it hard to break to make friends.

Regrets and resentments are part of life for everyone I'm sure, and of course it takes time to get over it. But as hypno so wisely said, we have to try to stop looking back and start looking forward.

Actually OH has been quite chilled today, perhaps it did him good to get it off his chest.

  • He is worth it - and I'm glad I've realised that before I ruin both our lives.

Glad OH has been feeling chilled - he's got a lot to look forward to with his new teaching work. And how good for you to be able to predict your income a bit better - it will really help with budgeting.

Sleep well everybody! I seem to wake up every couple of hours at the moment.

Seax - hi! How is your day going? Not good weather there then? Hope it improves. Have you got lots planned for today? Hope the decorating is close to completion now. I hate having people in the house.

Hi Sea. it's sunny but COLD down here. Really cold, feels like February!

The decorator has gone on holiday so we have a welcome break from his presence in the house. He's got a few more days to do to finish off but it already looks better than it did.

This is the first day I've had to work with the kids in the house as they spent two days at my mum's. It's not great, me trying to work while DS watches TV behind me and OH skulks in the shed - no, not clearing space for me, I don't know what he's doing.

Hope all's well with you and the children.

    Morning folks.

Busy day ahead as we have a bbq for the DDs' birthday this evening - only five girls invited but with our kids that makes nine to feed, and I hope some of the parents will stay for a drink or two. So we have to get the house and garden presentable, which they are very far from being now.

I would really like to make my hair presentable too, it looks a fright but I can't justify the cost. DD2 kindly said she "didn't mind having a mother with slightly off-normal hair."

OH has been shopping for the bbq and spent £100! Eat your heart out, Zulu Dawn!

I want to get a couple of hours paid work done this morning so must buckle down now.

Other things.... OH went to the dump yesterday and came back with a Dualit toaster in perfect working order (just needed a new fuse in the plug) and a tin of olives! There was apparently a whole bag of groceries but one of the dump staff took it all except the olives.

And I helped the DDs on their paper round this morning, they are earning £40/month EACH with this round. I'm going to put my name down for one myself.
