  • Hi Seaxwyn

Wow, that must be some barbecue with £100 worth of food! Can I come???? Does that include drinks or is it just gourmet food?

I hope it goes really well. It's a lovely day here in Cheshire and we're just going to walk up the river to Little Tesco to get the Guardian (weekend treat). We're then going to go to a National Trust place in Lancashire before our cards run out on Monday. Not as exciting as a drunken barbecue but better than housework!

Well done on OH's dump finds. I can't believe what people throw away.

    Well done on the toaster.

Hope the BBQ is a success.

I've got to get my hair sorted too. Tried using some free 'hotel' conditioner, thought it would be OK as it's Crabtree and Evelyn, but unfortunately my hair disagrees and it's frizzed  That's beside it's normal problems!

    Hi there Seax
(and Sea and Hypno and Taxi and everyone else!)

What an up and down time for you. Must be on top of the world about OH getting some work he will like, but what a down for you to realise how OH resented your decision ref Disney. Sigh relationships can be really difficult.

It was only when I was reading about other people moving about that I realise that is way always ME who moved, ie from Plymouth to Cheltenham, then out of Cheltenham, then to Bucks. I guess that was why OH was a bit miffed when I dug my feet in about emigrating to New Zealand rather than Australia. I had always agreed until then. But this time I am going to put ME first, and that is where I want to live.

Hope the BBQ goes ok for you weather looks alright for now.

ps I also got 88% in my last essay. I am well happy with that as I thought I had messed it up!

Thanks for visiting julia, se and chev

Julia, the Guardian-and-NT sounds lovely. Definitely my kind of Saturday. I can't quite imagine how he spent £100 either and hope it was not all for one barbeque. I will have to get my hands on the receipt. But the spending isn't over yet as DD1 has been despatched to buy aubergines and DD2 has asked whether there is going to be a cake.

se999, my hair looks so dreadful I *really* want it cut but will have to wait until some more money's come in.

chev well done! 88% is brilliant! And well done sticking to your guns about going to NZ. It's hard when relationships require compromise. I did realise how much OH minded about not going to LA at the time, but so many other opportunities have come and gone since then it's really far in the past in my mind - obviously not so in his.

Very industrious household here. OH and the kids are busy making marinades, lanterns (tea lights in jam jars) etc and I've done 2 hours work, in between sneaky visits to MSE.

I'm very taken with sammy115's goal to earn an extra £20 a day. I have this ongoing work at £24/hour that I never get round to doing, mainly as I always have more pressing tasks. But I am going to aim to do 1 hour of that every single day - maybe when the girls are doing their paper round. I'm carrying on with it today for as long as peace prevails, I will have to get involved in bbq preparations at some point I know.

Back now! Sorry, started to post then realised the time, and had to go and see a client!

Anyway, the weather is good so just enjoy the barbecue as much as you can. What's spent is spent now, so just feast!!!

The paper-rounds are good news - we are still waiting for one for DD here but will give the shop a reminder that she is still keen.

As for the one hour a day thing, I think that is a good idea - very achievable without too much stress or extra effort, yet will make such a difference to the income flow.

I hope you have a fab day :D

  • Hi, Seax. I have just read through most of your diary for the first time and found it very interesting. You write well but that is partly because of your job I guess?

I really sympathise with you trying to work from home with children in the same room. It must be very distracting and I wonder that you get any work done at all. Is there a childfree room you could work in, maybe your bedroom? Or could you build an extension on the shed? (okay I'm being silly now).

Anyway hope your new part time job goes well and OH's teaching.

Morning all, and thanks Hairy Hand for the message. I used to work in my bedroom but moved to the living room as I didn't like working 2' from my bed. I'm going to perservere in my campaign to move to the shed.

The barbeque went well, the children all ate royally and there is still masses of food left. They're all fast asleep now, so I've done the paper round (earning £5!) and hope to get a couple of hours of my other work done before they emerge.

Hypno, hope your DD gets a paper round soon - maybe she could offer to cover if any of the regulars are going on holiday. Mine had their names down for paper rounds for years and luckily someone packed it in at the right time. I was surprised to find most of the people doing paper rounds are retired, rather than children. Where is the work ethic in today's young people?
