I've been trying to invent a way of making myself save for the tax bill - my latest idea is to treat the tax bill as another debt. As I go along, I'm putting my earnings into a salary calculator to estimate what the bill will be (my expenses are tiny) and in my spreadsheet I've got the difference between my savings and my bill down as a debt. At least that way it's not hidden.

If you don't mind me asking, I'm really curious to know how you got into editing a PhD thesis. Was it through one of those bidding websites? I'd like to do something like that but I've got a science degree but 90% of my editorial experience is in legal publishing, so I never quite feel fully qualified in either direction.

Hiya! That's a really good idea. I have belatedly realised I need to see the tax bill as another debt and I'm going to do the same - thanks!

The PhD thesis came via an agency I sometimes work for in the Netherlands - they do editing for a range of publications written in English by (mostly) Dutch speakers - a lot of it is academic stuff as they are based in a town with a big university. I will PM you the link.

A power cut! *Thats* what's going on with me today - thanks hypno (sorry for the hijack, Seaxwyn, but needs must... its so difficult with the tax, isn't it - for instance, with the mystery shopping and amazon etc, I'm ignoring the tax that will eventually come with, and kind of 'hoping' it all sorts itself out. It has in the past, but things are so much tighter now, I'm wondering...

Ref the tax I refer you to my earlier post about deducting a set amount (doesn't have to be the whole tax) each time some cash hits the account from whatever source.....:D

Thanks Chev - yes it's not a new idea - but adding it to the spreadsheet was a useful new suggestion. How are you?

Special set of boxes/colours in the grid we all seem to have started doing, for the tax?

Well most of the boxes are now empty, and some of the stuff is in its place, but one room is still a mess because it came from a messy room (OH's!!!!!) so he needs to sort through it. But of course now he is working he has less time, so I guess that will be an ongoing project.

My main news is that I am getting weaned off the anti-d's. Am a bit (ok alot) scared, but it has to be done, even if only to find out that I am not ready to cope without them yet, and so go back on them.

Weather is finally improving which is a blessing all round. There are so many facilities that are free outside here, every park has a really good play area for instance, but we have hardly looked at any at all because the weather has been so changeable we haven't wanted to risk it.

Good luck with coming off the anti-ds. It's good that your doctor is supportive on this. Glad to hear the weather is improving after all the storms. It's a bit miserable here, a shame for the last week of the holidays. Enjoy exploring the local parks, what a lovely project to have.
