I don't blame you for not working in the post office - whilst there is an argument to say it is extra income, you do have to be realistic and offset the hours' work you are losing elsewhere and whether working for the post office, whilst nice, may be causing you greater stress in your "other" work than the benefit it brings.

blimey, looks like an equation........if cash in hand easy job + reduced time available for "real" job multiplied by £x per hour is equal to or greater than the stress created by additional time spent on MSE blah blah blah......what is the value of Q?

Proofreading still ongoing but client is happy - and I am now the world's leading expert on Bolivian forestry law... bound to come in useful someday.

The little ones start their playschemetoday. I really hope they like it. I feel guilty packing them off, but this playscheme sounds nicer than one they went to two years ago and hated. It's in a farm and all based on outdoor activities - campfires, den building, treasure hunts, caring for farm animals etc. It sounded lovely when I booked it but the Sun was shining back then.

Anyway I will make the most of the time to increase my knowledge of Bolivian forestry, earning 36 Euros an hour as I do it.

OH has been brilliant these past few days, looking after the children and spending the minimum on food. And my faith in him got a boost yesterday when one of the other sessional lecturers at his college rang up for a moan about all the unpaid marking they have had to do. I thought it was just my OH being disorganised but it seems to be a wider problem. They are going to write a joint letter of complaint to the Head of Dept and some higher authority at the college. I am so relieved and pleased.

Hi Seaxwyn - Bolivia notwithstanding, you sound a lot chirpier today! I'm pleased for you - is OH's marking problem to do with this US firm that have been sacked? It all sounds positive, anyway.

That playscheme sounds fantastic!! Quite fancy heading off there myself rather than tackling my living room :o

Bolivian forestry law........now there's an interesting topic to tuck away for dinner parties

Morning - sounds like you have been making great progress - well done!

re. the college - if it is anything like part time staff at uni the hourly rate (which is quite high) is paid on the basis of contact hours but expected to cover preparation and marking as well. It is very unrealistic since the metrics used assume you can prepare and mark a class in about an hour for each hour of contact which is crazy. So it may be that they do a similar thing at the college - if so it would be good to challenge it - hope he has success with that.

Really glad that you have soldiered on with the proof reading. Sorry that I nearly doubled how much you had to do though, hope I didn't give you kittens.

Was just wondering whether OH couldn't do some work in the post office...... eg whilst smallest two are at play scheme.

Thanks everyone. The marking thing was a !!!!-up by the college. They had to recalculate all the grades for all the final year students, as the marks had been wrongly calculated. There was some formula that grades were based on 25% coursework, 35% dissertation, 10% this and that etc - some things being marked, A, B C etc and some by numbers. Anyway it was all done wrongly, and the bigwigs at the university questioned the grade. So OH and a few others had to remark each individual piece of work and then recalculate the grades. It took weeks and none of it was paid as they hadn't been contracted to do it.

Funnily enough I had thought of OH working in the post office but it doesn't appeal to him.

The playscheme looked lovely - when I dropped the kids off a campfire was burning and ponies were being saddled up. I called in at my parents and lost 2 hours of my playscheme time doing jobs for them. So better get back to Bolivia.
