They will be 14 - and yes, thankfully they are bound to get some cash gifts from aunts and other relatives. I'd love to give them an Ipod or some such groovy gift, but no chance. I do want to improve on last year's gift of socks and knickers!

I've just posted the following on the bank reclaiming forum (twice!) - posting it again here in case any of my DFW friends know the answer. OH is obstinately refusing to get involved.

My husband had a business account with HSBC, now closed. I've got the last six years statements and there were hefty charges applied - often £70 or £80 in a month despite very few transactions.

Does anyone know whether we can claim these back? My husband says they are 'normal' account charges for a business account. I think he's in denial as he was constantly over his overdraft limit. Any advice welcome.

I can't see why not they can only say no at the end of the day!!!!!!...they will say quite clearly if they are business banking transactions ie cheque cashing 60p etc....I would give it a go.

Hi Seaxwyn, I have absolutely no knowledge in the matter, but I'm with Taxi - the worst they can do is say no, surely? They can't penalise you for applying. Go for it - thats a *lot* of money you're talking about.

You can apply for charges refunded regardless of whether they are personal or business.

Of course, because the case with the OFT is still in progress, the bank are more than likely to stay "sorry, can't do anything pending the court case" but at least the ball has started to get rolling, and occasionally the banks have been surprising people and paying out their claims regardless of the case.

So we come to the end of another week. I worked really hard at the beginning of the week, and as a result can write three invoices now, which is very welcome. But my usual slacker habits took over and had they not, I could be writing a bigger invoice. So that's annoying.

I went out to a work do last night, that was launching some things I'd worked on. They looked great and everyone was full of compliments and it made me feel really good about myself.

Tomorrow we have a barbeque for my DDs' birthday. They have invited nine people, so there will be 13 in all including our kids. One great side effect of this is my OH has been galvanized to tidy up the garden. It really needed doing. I'm cheered to know that not just for the barbeque but the summer holidays ahead, we will have a garden where there is room to sit, eat and generally chill.
