Well the oil tank saga carries on Seax, taxi, Sea and hypno, we had the letter from the third party loss adjuster today, saying that they had been told by out insurers that they weren't paying.

So now they would like us to pay their clients costs. Nothing much - just £40,000.So now we really have a reason to fight bloody axa

have you heard back from the job yet seax?

We have four children, in a four-bed house. But the rooms are small (I'm not exaggerating). Currently DD3 and DS share a room and that is not a good mix. I do think of swapping them round, maybe put DD2 and DD3 together (don't want the twins sharing), but once I thought of moving that seemed less stressful!

The twins go to secondary school in the next town, two miles away. The school is near a big post-war council estate, the houses are all in private hands now but I imagine would be cheaper than ours. The younger two are at primary school a short walk from our present house, but once DD3 is at secondary school that will be 3 children walking the two miles every day, which tips the balance in favour of moving.

Anyway that's my logic. Perhaps I'm being silly wanting the children to have their own rooms. But I will just stress again that our house is SMALL and there is no potential to extend further in any direction, or to subdivide rooms.

I grew up in a similar family to yours - I'm the eldest, my sisters are 2 and 6 years younger than me, and my brother's 8 years younger.

I shared with my 2 years younger sister from when she was born, until I was 15, and my younger sister and brother shared until they were 7 and 9. We had other bedrooms, but we had an au pair and my Dad worked from home in another (5 altogether).

I don't think sharing did us any harm at all, rather the opposite, and we still all get on very well now we are 30, 28, 24 and 22.

When I was 15, we moved, and in the new house had a bedroom each.

My sisters and I went to a secondary school 6 miles away, and left the house at 7.10am every day to catch a school bus, and got home at about 4.35pm. Didn't do us any harm either (-:

My brother went to a different school (5 days a week plus Sat mornings) and caught the train on his own from the age of 13, when he started there.

Hey Seax - any keys shown up yet? Also, was wondering today how your OH's brother is? Has he got any worse?

Chev - I just cannot believe that this is happening! It really does sound like something from the back of Which? magazine. What will you do now?

Chev 40 grand :eek::eek::eek::eek: I nearly fainted when I read that so can't imagine the dismay you must be feeling. Surely you have a good case for making them pay up though. But what a horrible battle to have on your hands. Good luck.

No sign of the keys yet - I just checked the freezer (thanks taxi) but not there.

No news of the job either, and I was so sure it was mine for the taking. Oh well.

neverdespairgirl, thanks for the reminder that children don't *need* their own bedrooms. I'm from a big family too and we all shared rooms. But for some reason my DD3 and DS don't get on at all well and hate sharing. Their room is so small, so there's not much potential for carving out their own space with it.

The walking to school thing doesn't bother me, they enjoy the long walk, but our proximity to the primary school is a factor for staying put, all their friends live around too. The older ones have more friends near where the secondary school is.

Perhaps I just need to get the house really tidy and comfortable and then everyone will be happier.

Don't know about OH's brother, we haven't heard any more since before Christmas. They are a most odd family who seldom communicate and we are not in direct contact with the ill brother.

    .

Try the washing machine / dryer / clean clothes basket (or is it just me who has a basket of stuff about to be sorted out and put away....?) and the toy box. All places my little angel has hidden things in the past!

If your daughter and son don't get on well sharing, could your 2nd and 3rd share? Or one of them with the eldest? If the rooms are a different size, could the sharers get the largest?

    Hi neverdespairgirl.

The best sharing duo would be nos 2&3 - however DD3 currently has the best room - a new one we built on. It's small but really nice and I don't think she'd be happy to give it up.

The largest bedroom is used by me and OH and I have suggested we swap with DD2 and DS but he won't have it. I will try that tack again.

You are quite right, it's daft to go through all the stress and expense of moving when there is really just this one problem - that DD and DS don't like sharing a room. Thanks for making me see that.

    Morning Seaxwyn..hope your ok ...
I've done the debating myself over a bigger house as well so can sympathise with you. It's so hard to make a deciscion isn't it?...in the end I decided it was a want more than a need for me and decided to stay put and that I really want to be totally debt free and found that to be more important to me put it was a lot of thinking time wrestling with my thoughts...being totally debt free will free us from the slavery and the stress of having to do so many hours and to have a good work/life balance....
You'll make your deciscion and know it's right when you feel at ease with it IYSWIM...take care and have a good day

    Hi all
Yes it was a shock about the money. And when i read the letter again, it said that was only for the damage, not for the other losses (which I take to mean their loss of takings, though they were shut for the week it all started, anyway to have their electrics done, so would contest that anyway). So great even more money.

So OH has to do the letter tomorrow to the insurance, apparently my one was too emotional. !!!!!!!!!! at least I flipping wrote one. Sigh. If he doesn't do the rewrite tomorrow I am just sending my emotional one or else we ARE going to give it to the solicitor. I just can't handle the pressure of this as well as everything else. I was hoping to come of the anti depressants before we leave UK but don't feel I can now with all this hanging over us. BIG SIGH!!!

    Sorry for the hijack.

    Back to the house
Is there any scope for remodelling anywhere some how? Ie taking down internal walls (and I know zilch about this), and then redistributing the space?

    Not really sensible I know.

And you know it make sense about the tidy house, one of your DD's had commented on this before (how it made her sad?). So maybe a mega declutter, will help everyone's stress levels.

By the way I am assuming your OH found the car keys!
