That sounds hopeful Z - what can you actively do about the work situation apart from that option of going to the designer? Any other ideas?

HI folks. Z that is very encouraging, I hope you're right.
Work.... it's something I've successfully avoided thinking about for ten years at least as work tends to turn up. I do have a strong feeling that I want a change and I'm trying to work out what. I have a big deadline this week so once that's out of the way I'll give it a bit more thought.
On another front, I've just been given three boxes of classy kitchen bric a brac, by a consumerist friend who's had a clear-out. I can't wait for carboot season to come round again.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Good luck with the deadline.

I should investigate car booting - it's jsut now I like to get everything out of the house as quickly as possible!

EVENING SEAXWYN...what a great christmas you had and well done on what you've paid so far....
I agree with what ZTD was saying about the loan to value rate..being SE we've always had self cert mortgages but because we have have roughly 50% in this house then even though we are self employed my mortgage advisor has used the abbeys fast track so even though we're not salaried because we have 50 % of the house and an excellent credit rating we may get this mortgage without showing our books the surveyor is coming tomorrow we've had an AIP..so after valuation we will find out...if we can get it without books also no legal fees or surveyors fees to pay and can overpay as much as we want at any time with no penalty...hope that helps you..take care xx0 -
Thanks taxi, that is really helpful and very encouraging. Once again I am going to take a leaf out of your book and see if I can copy you.
Just admiring your new sig - lots of 3s! Did you notice I have started tax saving now, I'm very proud, it's a lifetime first for me. A way to go though.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Happy New Year Seax
Sorry it is a bit late, but I kept missing your diary I guess, and have been fighting the lurgy too.
Well done on the 10k pay off. That is fab news. And to think you did that when you were having procrastinating matches with me for half the year as well. Just imagine what you might do is you didn't procrastinate:eek:.
Ref OH and finishing in July, what about a summer school? Doesn't necessarily have to be at the college he is at now. How about the OU? But he does seem to pick up work fairly easily now, so maybe something will turn up. Maybe he could be holiday cover for someone...
Ref the job/feeling flat etc. I think it is just the time of year. We seem to be doing a lot of hurrying up and waiting in our house. We can now sort out the finance problem that has been stopping us emigrating, but we STILL don't have an oil tank on site, so STILL can't rent it out. So it is a right pain.
What I mean to say is that just check that what you're feeling isn't post xmas blues, rather than a long term desire to change. On the other hand, maybe all of the procrastinating last year, was your subconscious's way of telling you that it was time for a change.
I guess the test is, what would you do if money wasn't an issue?
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Hey Chevalier! We must keep missing each other, how are you and has there been any progress with the oil saga. Has the insurance backed down at all?
I think my work woes are more than just seasonal. I do love a lot about the work I do, but I have also found it a real struggle this last year. I know I need to unpick which aspects I like and which I don't and try to get contracts with more of the former.
But meanwhile I've been offered another three-month part-time contract by the same organisation I've been working for recently. I really did not enjoy the last few months BUT this is a different job (not necessarily better of course) and I don't have a huge amount lined up so I'm inclined to go for it and be assured of solvency for three months more.
Lots of decisions are percolating in the back of my mind. I've decided that we should move house in summer 2009. I will get this house valued and find out whether we could get a 5-bed house in a less salubrious part of town for the same price as this one.
I don't know if OH could get another teaching job. He doesn't have a degree, which is usually required. I think he's just very lucky with the one he's got.
Right that's my Friday night update. I've got a horrible weekend looming as i have to write two articles, and the people I need to interview won't be around. Why oh why do I always do thisTotal debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi Seaxwyn...
I'd be inclined to take the job as well as it's guaranteed money...I don't think anyone on this planet enjoys their work 100% of the time (at least thats what I tell myself when I'm sat in the cab)
Good luck with finding a different house...on the one hand I want to buy a bigger house on the other I want to be mortgage free so have been fighting the same thoughts myself0 -
Morning Seaxwyn! I too would go for the three months guaranteed solvency. Even though OH doesn't have a degree he can still do some teaching, surely? Perhaps he needs to enrol on a PGCE or something similar to open up more doors.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes.
