MSE News: British Gas fined £2.5m over complaints

Guess that should have been: one percent of....
In that case I'd consider I'd got off lightly if it was for dangerous driving.
If you are making that comparison maybe BG should have a £50 million fine and have their license suspended for 6 months?
Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

It's not whether you got off lightly ( although 1% of median income now means £300 ), but if your missus would be impressed with you getting a £300 fine for dangerous driving.Plushchris wrote: »In that case I'd consider I'd got off lightly if it was for dangerous driving.
As for getting of easily; using a mobile whilst standing still but with engine running is classed as dangerous driving/driving without due care and attention if iirc.0 -
So they hunt out people who will give bad service.
Good grief. Nuurse, we`ve found another one.
An unwarranted snide comment - we'll put it down to ignorance. No, they don't seek personnel who will give bad service. Neither do they seek personnel who will give good service. They want SALESPEOPLE capable of turning a query or complaint into a sales opportunity. "Can't be bothered to sort your problem, but can we sell you cavity wall insulation"?0 -

It`s free for existing customers (subject to survey). Hope that clarification helps

It does make things crystal clear. It`s free for existing customers (subject to survey). Hope that clarification helps
By adding those little bits in brackets, like the little * and such referring to the "terms and conditions apply" scenarios, it becomes a whole different ball park.
It's like the homecare "promise" that makes people believe that they never have to go without heating or hot water for more than 24 hours.
If only I had one single quid for every disillusioned homecare customer........0 -

That insulation that is free to BG Customers. Must be hard to sell that
.
Will people just get a grip and realise every company has to make a profit to survive therefore employ thousands of british people.
No profit no work with any company. end of.
However some people will shout "con" even when its "free". :A

The survey in question here is to make sure that your house can actually support the insulation. Think about it for a second bengasman. Even you have to admit that not installing cavity wall insulation in a house with solid walls, for example, isn't a fix. No matter how much you obviously want to just on general principles.I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0

I did think about it for a couple of seconds and it became very clear. If the reason for the limitation "subject to survey" was really because you can't install cavity wall insulation with a solid wall, it would have read: "where possible".The survey in question here is to make sure that your house can actually support the insulation. But it doesn't say "where possible", it says "subject to survey" for a very good reason; it's because they want to be able to pick and choose who gets it and who doesn't.0 -

And why would they want to do that? What evidence do you have that this is happening?
Your posts make you sound quite paranoid.:money:0 -
hi, they can be fined anything up to 10% of their annual turnover for this by ofgem believe it or not. but if they are like other utility providers they have to account for things like this happening within their budget so by rights should not actually affect the customer. in fact it should make service better really as they now really have to pull their finger out as ofgem will be watching! If it makes a difference is yet to be seen. as for the prices we will never know if they are up because of this, greed or economic presure.Converted comper to MSE. Thank you for all your answers!0
