The OP simply came on this site to help out her friend and her friend's daughter. There is absolutely no need for people to be having a go. All of those who have put unhelpful and downright rude comments should be ashamed of themselves.

The person who should be ashamed of themselves is the couple bringing a child into the world without a second thought as to how to provide for it.

Neither are working, 15 weeks pregnant is not a disability go out and earn some money.

As previously stated, looking for what benefits are available before the baby is the size of an apple is just indicative of the lazy generation of folk that I am sick of bank rolling.

I do have a right to an opinion, and my advice is for them to both go out and get a job. I was laid off 4 years ago and found work in a pub within 3 hours to tie me over, I signed on and off in the same meeting. Surrounded by smack heads and drunks is not my idea of fun, I forfeited my entitlement to benefits (which ironically I have paid into far more than these wasters) to retain my sanity!

So yes we can judge, and we will.

If you wish to discuss ethical, moral and political issues surrounding state benefits and those who claim them you should do so on the 'discussion time' board. This board is for helping those who are entitled to benefits to find out about them and to claim them. This has been clearly stated by the MSE team on one of the 'sticky' threads at the top of this board.

She can't claim JSA as she's only 17.

same you can't claim tax credit until you are 21!

She was asking for help and guidance on how to proceed, I have given a recommendation. Try employment, not ethical or moral preaching just a simple and straightforward solution to the OP's short term problem.
