Becles - glad Charlotte's enjoying her food. That sounds like a good start!
Sorry to p on the parade, but I had virtually no sickness with Imogen. I did have a few days of feeling queasy and threw up once, but that was it. I also had AWFUL heartburn and indigestion, and Imogen is fair, with very little hair. Daddy is dark, so I was expecting a dark-haired, hairy baby. She's not a textbook child this one!
Just recovering from Poker Night last night. We had a fab time, but had to give it up at 10.30pm as we were all knackered! Most of us are back at work and I think that's taking its toll. Still, we had a good time and raised some money for charity.
Re baby walkers that babies sit in. My HV has been really specific about not using them as they make baby lazy when learning to walk, so we won't be having one. Personal choice though. We are looking at the Vtech First Steps which is a push-along one and has activites for baby to do while sat. You'll see it on the link to the dancing tower Becles posted. That looks good, but not sure about the microphone - Imogen makes enough noise already without amplification :eek:MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Hi guys, quick question, can anyone tell me how long roughly a baby of 11 weeks old, should be going between feeds? Hayden is still only doing 3-4 and having good 20 min feeds. Is this ok? Is hehaving too much. still the same of an night too, 3-4 hours, despite having gone for six hours previously. He has 1 formula feed of an evening (6oz) and even that only sees him through for about the same length of time.

3-4 hours is good. kennedy was bf till she was 6 months and the most she ever went was 3 hours in the day. she'd sleep from 7-7 though at night0

Hi Jenpoptab, My DD now 13months was BF till 12months. She feed every 2 to 4 hours in the day and around 20 to 30mins at the age your little one is at the mo. At night she would wake at 10pm for another feed then thro till 6am.
You prob wont get any longer that 4hr between feeds in the day! As long as your getting plenty of wet nappies they are getting enough Milk. Ask your HV if your worried.
Also 20 mins sounds like a good time as he will be getting the fore milk (the thurst quanching milk) and the hind milk (the milk with the goodness and calories) Do you offer the breast when he comes of the first?

Hi Jen
Hayden sounds perfectly normal! Imogen was BF at that age and went between 3 and 4 hours between feeds, feeding for anywhere from 15 to 30 mins. At night she had a feed at 7pm (bedtime) them a dream feed at 11pm-ish. Then she'd be up between 3am and 4am, but would then go through until 7-8am. It wasn't until she was 16 weeks that she dropped the middle of the night feed and I know babies who were still having this one up to being 6 months. All quite normal.
As long as he's putting on weight and seems happy then I wouldn't worry too much. As Andi says, speak to your HV if you're worried. Offering both sides would be another option but I didn't find this made much difference with Imogen. Thanks. It's terrible that I can't remember what it was like with other two, and I assumed he should be going longer by now. Must be because the girls are so much older an independant that i have forgotten what it's like to BF.
Thanks for your comments though.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030 -
Natasha feeds about every 3 hours during the day (she's about 19 weeks, I think), but sleeps through from about 9.30pm - 7.30am (and would probably sleep longer if I didn't wake her up to do the school run, lazy monkey.
Sometimes I wish she would go a bit longer during the day, but I can count the sleepless nights we've had on one hand, so I'm not going to push my luck!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Can I ask a question about dream feeds, as a few of you have mentioned them? I've tried dream feeding Alex but it hasn't worked so far - he just can't suck when he's asleep.
Is there an age when they start being able to feed in their sleep (he's 5 weeks tomorrow) or is he just a funny baby?
And anyway, I really struggle with night time feeds sometimes as he'll fall asleep during feeding and no amount of poking will wake him! Especially at the moment as he's still got a stuffy nose ad he can't feed for very long, but I don't know if we'll ever have a good night's sleep! :rolleyes:0 -
BTW when you all say how often your babies feed, do you count it from the start of one feed to the start of another, right?Alex usually does 3-4 hours between feeds, day and night. More often at the moment though, as I said due to the cold.0
