Ooh, glad it's not just us then! Joseph is now extremely vocal in his unhappiness, throws things - you know it's serious when he chucks his dummy away. I've seen proper paddies and yesterday he bit my knee - this was a first and not terribly appreciated. Keeps you on your feet though - you can't reason with someone so young, and because they are so good at tantrums they get what they want pretty quickly - I give in to him all the time, I can only ignore so much!
I cannot imagine what the 'terrible twos' mean! It gets worse?
I find it quite funny to be honest but mustn't let him see that or he'll think it's a game  I do give in as like you say he is too young for reason. He does a high pitched angry scream if he doesn't get his way - like if I move him out of the kitchen because he really wants to go in the cupboard with glasses in - just cherish this time before they learn the word 'no' :eek:0 -
daphne_descends wrote: »xcat_girlx I am sure it is just naivety but using phrases like 'boobs round your ankles' and saying 'hanging off me' in relation to breastfeeding is pretty offensive. Sorry. It's just not like that. My boobs are fine and I've been feeding him for nearly a year. I have a few pale white stretchmarks, but I got those while pregnant (check out the 'pregnancy's best kept secrets' thread for the wonderful dirt on this miracle of pregnancy and birth!). They'd be there if I'd never fed him. And he doesn't 'hang' off me. He snuggles into me and makes little noises of contentment and actually it's quite beautiful.
I am sure you did not intend offence. But please think of others before you use what is pretty negative language.
sorry! i've heard some really horrible stories from people and things described in those exact words which is probably why i see them like that.
you on the other hand make it sound like a very appealing thing to do!:j TTC from September 08 / BFP November 08 / EDD 22nd July 09 :jOH's debt as of Sept 08 - £15,000 / Nov 08 - £13,5000 -
xcat_girlx thanks
I'm glad you said that and realise I wasn't trying to get at you - the trouble is that if you breastfeed you do come up against a lot of prejudice and people think they can joke about it, well I don't mind the odd joke but usually it's a bit mean rather than funny if you know what I mean?
You'll find out when you're pregnant - EVERYONE around you becomes an expert! Telling you what to do when you are pregnant and judging every decision you make when the baby is born! Honestly everyone thinks they know better than you - it just gets veeerry tiring - which is why I love this forum as no one seems to judge here and I hope I don't either - I know bf-ing isnt' for everyonedon't stop with the questions though! Especially for those with older babies, theyre full of great advice here

thanks:) can i ask.....why was it you decided to breastfeed? was it a health thing or like you said being closer to the baby? or a money thing?
tbh, i never see ANY young mothers breastfeeding. i will only be 22, 23 at the most i hope when we have our baby and all the mothers i've seen breastfeeding tend to be among the older group i.e. mid-late 30's.:j TTC from September 08 / BFP November 08 / EDD 22nd July 09 :jOH's debt as of Sept 08 - £15,000 / Nov 08 - £13,5000 -

er no.
You need to carry several sterilised bottles (because you'll need to change bottles, and if you've sent your OH out with baby then he'll experience the baby crying, try to feed him, but the baby won't be hungry, so that will be a waste of a bottle as well, and in an hour or so's time the baby WILL be hungry). Then you need sterile water and formula, or the more convenient but more expensive option buying it in small cartons.
You won't simply put it in a bottle when you go out because bacteria will breed and especially at a young age the baby will be at high risk of getting sick from milk that's more than an hour old.0 -

I have to second daphne's post - feeding your own baby is a very positive experience and having done both I'd say far easier too. I bottlefed baby no.1 as the prevailing attitude at the time was very much pro bottle and there was little help for me at the time to deal with my particular breastfeeding problem (flat nipples) but this time after MANY problems me and baby finally got it together and life has been sooo much easier without the sterilizer being constantly on the go.
I don't feed in public as I'm not that way inclined so don't feel that breastfeeding means you must be prepared to do this (although it takes a bit of planning ahead sometimes when you are going out but this would be the same if bottle feeding).
On the costs issue, babies cost very little if you don't go mad buying stuff! Older children on the other hand seem to cost a bomb - my 10 yr old eats as much as me and wears more expensive shoes and they have to be replaced every 6 mths!!! :0)MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -

oh my lord, i really should know that, i've fed my friends baby often enough and all her cartons say dont use after 1 hr. i didnt know it was the same with breast milk! i thought you could pump it out and just use it

3. Given a choice between feeding a baby, and winding, changing and pacing the floor with a baby, I'd go for feeding every time. Funnily enough, I think DH would have done too, but as he couldn't breast feed he didn't get a choice.
Quite right.
I should have mentioned this. Baby #1 (bottle fed) had colic, crying, kept us awake for hours, but breasts are miraculous baby-soothing devices and never had that problem with #2.0 -

Maybe older mothers have more patience to try and are wiser to make up their own mind? I doubt many ladies chose to breastfeed because of the money!!!!! That would make no difference to my mind to bf or not!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

would you then plan trips out round feeds etc?
my mind is whirring away like a little machine now, all these things i've never thought about.
