    I need sagely advice please

DH came home with a horrible cold last week, I thought myself and Alex had escaped but this morning I woke up with a streaming nose so I presume it can't be long before Alex starts showing symptoms?

So Help - what can I do to help him feel better (he is 7 weeks old, but was premature so only 1 week past his due date)?

    Thanks
    Gem

PS. In response to the earlier post. Alex ALWAYS falls asleep while feeding, that's the only way I know he has finished because he falls asleep and then eventually falls off the boob :)

I'm going to merge this into our existing 'Parent Club' thread where I'm sure you'll find a lot of other suggestions for keeping costs down.

Just a couple of thoughts of my own ...

im lucky that i have several friends with babies so may be able to swipe swings etc if i decide we need 1.

as much as i dont want my child spoilt, i want to make sure they can have the best we can give them without scrimping and scraping.
You may find you are given a lot of stuff as time goes by, and baby will never know whether it was brand new or pre-loved, top of the range or cheap as chips. My sons slept in an old-fashioned pram from my aunt which several of her daughters had used for their babies, and we had their cot as well. I could never have afforded that kind of pram, and many families wouldn't have been able to fit it in their hall, but it was ideal for us.

re: changing table.....would it be worth getting 1 with drawers etc to double as baby furniture?
Changing table? What's one of them? I had a bit of hardboard over the bath, covered with fablon, and the changing mat on top of that. And a changing mat on the floor as they got bigger: babies can't roll off the floor ...

In some ways you're asking the wrong question. Would a small chest of drawers be useful to you? Do you have space for it in a place which would be convenient for keeping baby's changing mat now? If that's a yes to both questions, then getting a dual purpose piece of furniture now makes as much sense as getting it later. But I wanted the changing mat in the bathroom, and there was no room there for a table!

Sounds horribly expensive to me. You can get a chest of drawers for £30 from Ikea, or less second-hand.

It also sounds like you are planning to spend money that you can't afford. Not a good idea.

would ikea sell something like this? im thinking practicality wise?

im keeping my fingers crossed our parents will help out with cots & prams.

i think i've worked the tax credits out wrong........it says we're entitled to nothing even though we only earn 16k p.a each?
No, that's correct. A combined income of 32k per annum takes you over the threshold.

The only BIG thing I won't compromise on is carseat! Bean is getting the best no matter WHAT the cost... end of :) Although DH actually declared that before I did :)

Have you seen Matrix Cup car seat by Jane? Where baby can be completely flat?... It is expensive, but so far it is my favourite (not that I am pg yet, just doing my bit of research...)

  • Its Childrens Tax Credit you should be looking at. I think the threshold is just over £50,000.

  • Hope I'm not stating the obvious but have you put in that you have just had a child?! I'm almost positive you would get around £20pw for the first year of your childs life on an income of £32k and half that after baby is 1.
