I want some advice on the best way to get a deal on highchairs. :money: When we get back from hols (2 weeks to go and counting!) we need to buy her a high chair. Not least 'cos I'm getting pains in my back and hips from sitting on the floor to feed her in her Bumbo.

The Chicco Polly came out really well in a Mother & Baby mag test recently. I've shopped around and don't think we can get it for much less than £100 when you include P&P from on-line suppliers. I was thinking therefore that we'd go to Boots and pay the £100, but get advantage card points.

Any other ideas or can anyone find it cheaper all in?

    Hi again.

I'm glad to see you are all moving more towards weaning now. Charlie is doing really well with it, but he is now 31 weeks, and we have been doing this since he was 16 weeks old.

It is getting far easier now he is 7 months and we can have more interesting things for him to eat.

I was thinking of starting a thread about baby purees, but i think i'll just share ideas with you lot.

We have just started doing 2 course meals. Here's some of the things i give him, recipes are usually annabel karmel ones:
    • pear and prune puree (great for constipation)
    • apple, pear and cinnamon (i sometimes also add apricot)
    • pear and parsnip
    • sweet potato, spinach and peas
    • chicken casserole (chicken, sweet pot, leek and carrot)
    • cod, onion, carrots and peas in cheese sauce
    • cod, sweet pot, and orange juice
    • i've just made a stew with beef, carrots, swede, onion and parsnip for him to try tomorrow
    • weetabix (i/2) plus whole milk for breakie
    • 1/2 slice of wholemeal toast with dairylea
    • dairylea cheese strings - great fun as a finger food
    • fruit loaf toasted with marg
    • he's had raisins, although he couldn't cope with them really and choked, so i'll leave it till he's older
    • red lentil/butternut squash and onion
    • he's tried pretty much every veg going, and all fruits but citrus. Banana gave him bad indigestion as did under-ripe mango, so i have avoided some fruits since then
    • avocado mashed with milk - absolutely minging and made him gip, although he kept trying bless him
    • cauliflower cheese
    • 1/2 a small jacket potato with dairylea
    • pots of petit-filous - again, fruits like strawberry cause problems, but apricot was alright
    • heinz fruit pots
    • organix fruit pots
    • organix carrot sticks
    • apple flavoured rice cakes
    • i caught my sister feeding him some doughnut
    • he likes quavers, although only a couple cos they are quite salty
    • he likes chocolate - white or milk
He will generally eat anything i put in front of him, which i am really grateful for. Plus, on the odd occasion when i have fed him savoury jars he turned his nose up at it. I gave him one with pasta, and an hour later, after i had pushed it through the sieve to make the bits smaller and persevered, he only ate a bit of it.

In terms of milk, he has 2 x 7oz bottles through the day, then a 9oz bottle before bed at 7pm, and pretty much sleeps through till 7am, although it is getting earlier now the mornings are lighter.

I worried about his milk consumption because he was guzzling 4 x 8oz bottles at one point while friends with babies said there's had cut down by themselves. I had to cut the milk down and then when he creates at the end of the bottle, i put his dummy in until he stops crying. (tip from my mum, and it worked for us) Also, instead of milk with his lunch and tea, i offer him diluted pure orange juice (1oz juice to 5 oz cooled boiled water) as the monkey will not have water or drink from a cup. He will have a tiny bit from my cup if it is really cold, but then it isn't sterile. I think i will work at this more when it is really hot as he will be hot and thirsty then.

If anyone has any differet things to try feeding him then please share as i get so fed up with trying to think of different things that will provide him with a balanced diet, yet not be repetitive.

PS - gorgeous photos of babies. What a photogenic bunch!

Thanks Michelle. I'm not very adventurous with combining her purees, your post has inspired me to be more creative.

Thanks also to Andycarmi for the info about highchairs. Think we'll go for that cheaper version.

    A few nice recipes here

I've also got the Annabel Karmel baby purees book and the baby and toddler cookbook, haven't got beyond the basic bland purees yet as my LO is not taking to solids too well, but look like there are plenty of ideas in there.

thanks for that link. I'll have a good luck at it later when mardy bum has a kip.

highchairs - i have to say i have as hauck one which my aunty bought me which is naff. I love my sisters chicco one cos it has 3 reclining poisitions which is great when they are this big. Also, the tray comes off, which it doesn't on mine, which is easier for cleaning and lifting littlies in and out.

The only thing i do like about mine is it folds really flat, so we can fit it in DH's car when we go away for the weekend, although saw a great one at the Asda cafe which is also in mothercare, and i could be really tempted as it was fantastic.

can I please mention that DAIRYLEA tends to have too much salt in for littlies...best to use philly or shops equivalent...not low fat though..as babies need the full fat and low fat tends to be saltier also

That seems expensive for what it is, but I can see how handy it could be. Need to do some moneysaving on that one! :money: :money:

    Hello! :hello:

Thought I would pop over to the parenting club thread as I don't really qualify for the pregnancy thread anymore.

I just have to say, there are some seriously cute babies in your avatars :)

My daughter was born 2 weeks ago after an amazing, if rather dramatic, one and a half hour labour that nearly ended in me giving birth in the hospital corridor lol!

Can't wait to get some tips off you experienced Mums - I've got a 6 year old but it seems sooo long ago since we had a baby to look after!
