one final question... when can i have sex again??
im going to burst if i dont get it soon!!! i had the mirena coil before and obviously i cant have that put in yet....we both hate condoms, hmmn.. i think there may be a box of contraceptive pills knocking about somewhere
the thing thats going to do my head in is my 6 week check, the time when these things are magically recommended again will be interferred with by the arrival of christmas
(theres a joke about my christmas stockings here somewhere... but im too bloody tired to figure it out!)
    :rotfl:
IMHO the 6-week rule is a bit stupid. Surely you should be guided by the way you feel - if you feel ready, you're ready. ;)

Contraception is always a bit of a problem at this stage, but what can you do? Personally I'm a bit paranoid about getting pg again (even despite BFing) so condoms it is then (although let's face it, nobody likes them ).

lets face it... its not going to be the same as the rampant deviance that got me into this pickle in the first place ;) (not to start with anyway! lol)
its not even going to be like the pregnancy sex (thank you mrs horny fairy! mmmnnn)
im only 3 weeks post c section....we are going to take it easy, and we are ready... the only thing thats stopping me is the contraception thing,
the thought of getting pregnant again EVER brings me out in a cold sweat... let alone it happening now because we were too stupid to wait for the coil to go back in! i just dont think i can wait til after christmas/new year!
seriously...i love babies, i was born broody... for my whole life whenever ive seen a pregnant woman my first thought is 'ahhhhhhh' and i go all gooey,
well now my first thought is 'urgh! the poor cow' and i go all shivery at the thought of ever putting myself through pregnancy again!
so its a risk im not willing to take! i NEED to be protected or it just aint happening... and if it doesnt happen soon i may go off bang.

ohhh and please dont think that BFing protects you in ANY way, its old wives crap and really doesnt make any difference
  • SB we've no routine here yet really and it suits me fine. Elliot has a bath somewhere between 8 and 9 and the rest is on an as and when basis. We go for a walk in the afternoon but that's because it takes that long to get organised rather than being structured :o

CG trust your own feelings on when you are ready. We tried after a couple of weeks and it felt too soon but that was more to do with me being paranoid than anything.

Breastfeeding isn't contraception but it does often stop ovulation - trouble is there's no way of knowing... so I think condoms are best at this stage. I'm certainly not keen to put any hormones into my body yet, it's busy enough with everything else that's going on!

SusanCarter - are you doing elimination communication? Out of curiosity are you a babywearer? Or anyone else here?
  • Oh and thanks for the offers of listening ears.

  • Thanks, CG, Dormouse & Fac..think I was having a little panic that I was doing everything wrong...

CG, my poor DH hasn't had a look in yet and I'm a month ahead of you :rotfl: . I'm actually quite petrified about it if I'm honest  . My Dr recommended Durex Play lube (how embarassed was I :o ) and sent me away with 12 condoms! :D . I'm beginning to wish I had been checked 'down there' now just to be confident that the stitches have healed as they should. I can't take the pill as my BP is still on the high side  . Oh, and I haven't had a period yet and its 8 weeks tomorrow. Guess it won't be long now (and it will be my first of 2007! :rotfl: ).

Fac, I do hope you are OK. Are you thinking of leaving OH? Take care of yourself xxx

    Hi all,

Been away for a week and just catching up. This is going to be a bit of an edited reply as I've got plenty of suggestions!

    First and foremost

my ds1 (i'm 33 weeks with ds2 @ the mo) is still having trouble switching his body clock over since BST ended. he wakes up @ 5:30 every morning and won't go back to sleep, sometime plays in his room for a little while but most mornings i end up getting up @ around 6ish.

Slapps - try this site. It's the new Mother and Baby one.
    http://www.askamum.co.uk/Questions-and-answers/Search-Results/?N=499+541+4294963929&Ns=P_Publication_Date

I think I've seen an article about putting an alarm clock on the landing outside LO's room. On the first day when LO wakes up you go in and tell them that it isn't time to get up until the alarm goes off, then go out and set it for 2 mins time. When it goes off you breeze in and start the day.

You make the time later each day by 5 mins until you get to your desired time. Hard work to start with as you're still getting up early, but if it works you'll be sorted. Sorry I couldn't find the exact article, but I reckon it might be on that site anyway.

Re weaning. Imogen was a very hungry baby (45oz of hungry baby milk at 12/14 weeks  ) and we weaned her at 17 weeks. Just bits of baby rice to start with but quickly on to fruit and veg purees. I used the NCT book, First Foods and Weaning, and found it helpful for both a timetable and recipes. Can't remember exactly when she went to 3 meals but she was definitely on 3 meals in June (5.5 mths-ish) when we were on hols.

Bailey - :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: Hope you're feeling better. Have to agree with HV, you sounded like your depression was back with a vengence. Glad they're recognising this, even if there's not a lot you can take. Re Big changing bag -we're on real nappies and I got a couple of sale bargains from Vertbaudet. We use a weekend bag, sounds much like the one susan suggested, and it's plenty big enough for what you need.

I'll edit this post with more stuff soon I'm sure. I'm only on page 69!

Re teething (ages ago!) we use Ashtons and Parsons powders and they are fantastic! They are homeopathic and pretty cheap compared to the Nelsons ones which are more widely available.

On formula - we have used SMA with Imogen and she's been fine. Gold to start with, but quickly moved over to white (the hungry baby stuff). We didn't start formula feeding until 15-ish weeks though, so perhaps her digestive system was better equipped to deal with it at that point?

we still don't have a routine and kennedy is 13 months.
she usually in bed at 7pm, but only because she's tired at that time, but every thing else is adhoc. she gets fed when she's hungry etc.
i don't really do routine, i like taking things as they come.

Phew! Just got through 10 pages. My you ladies have been busy! Welcome to the newbies. Hope you and LOs are doing ok.

Routine - We are big routine fans. We started Imogen at 6 weeks old when we realised that we were spending all evening jumping at every gurgle as she slept in her moses basket and weren't getting any couple time.

Saying that, I do wish we'd done the 'backwards' routine thing - starting later and moving it sooner - as she didn't sleep through until about 20 weeks. We don't know if it would have worked, but I know others who have had success with it.

She's a little star now though. Totally routine-d! She's in the bath any time from 6 to 6.30, then bottle and bed. We always put her down awake - BIG TIP this one, even when they're tiny - and she either chatters herself to sleep or just drifts off. She sleeps until around 7am, sometimes earlier, sometimes later and we don't hear a peep from her all night.

I don't think it's a complete old wives' tale as it does have some truth in it, but you're right, I wouldn't rely on it as my only means of contraception.

With DS1, my periods came back at 6 months, when he was on 3 solid meals a day, and sleeping through, so my milk supply must have reduced a lot at that point. I do remember reading that as long as you're BFing exclusively, during the night and with no additional feeds of anything, you shouldn't ovulate, and that was the case with me, both times (well it remains to be seen when I start ovulating this time ).

I have to say I'm so not looking forward to good old Auntie Flo visiting   :(

Oh and CG, I completely forgot you had a section (despite your sig - duh! :o) so have no idea what the rules are about sex after a cesarian  I just remember my What to Expect series of books which says not to do it in the first 6 weeks after a normal birth - ha ha! :p
