Hi again, Mandy! I have just asked DH about the formula in my hospital (as I never left my room!) and they apparently had a choice of SMA Gold, Cow & Gate, Aptimil and Farleys. But as Susan says, you may have to ask beforehand.

CG, glad to hear everything is fine.
As we're still full of the cold (well, me mainly ), ventured into Boots today to stock up on stuff. Was going to get SnuffleBabe, as recommended by you guys, but then found a Boots own version of VapoRub, which can apparently be used for 3 months plus (as opposed to Vicks, which is 6 months +). How strange - the ingredients are the same, just different proportions.Hey ho, it was BOGOF and I got extra points with it too. :money:

I bought a nipple procector last night. Been able to feed from that side again, but it seems to make it more difficult as Sammy hasn't been able to drain the breast like the other.
Quick question is how do I sterilise the protectors ????????????? No instructions on pack ???
izoomzoom - quite new to this posting reply malarky so hope it's in the right place. nipple protectors/ shields etc are not advised and usually (not always I know) cause more problems than they solve due to the action required by baby to get milk from the breats. You need to get yourself to your local breastfeeding support group, or do you have community mothers access - sort of local mums who have been trained as breastfeeding buddies?, what is your health visitor suggesting?, rubbing breast milk on your nipples after each feed is good, and don't wash your nipples more than once daily - this will dry them out more, lansinoh cream (unsure of spelling on that one) is also good and i may be wrong but i don't think it has to be washed off before next feed - better check that out though.
good luck:hello:there's me, OH, DS 10, DD 7,
and our deranged border collie - sadly put to sleep Aug 23rd 09now have our GSD x collie oct 10

Hi weemissy, yes, your post has landed in the right place!
My health visitor actually DID recommend nipple shields to me when I was in quite a lot of pain, although having said that, I looked at the price of them in our local chemist and decided to just grit my teeth!
The Lansinoh does seem to work well though, and you're right, it doesn't have to be washed off before feeds (although some babies apparently don't like the taste). Kamillosan is another one but I haven't tried it."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
You guys are probably already aware of this but if not, have you registered with the 'Care at the Chemist' scheme? DH, Poppy and I all registered last week at our local SuperDrug Pharmacy and I got Sudacreme on prescription without visiting the Dr (I didn't actually need it but the assistant said I might as well get one while I was there!
).

No, not aware of this. How does it work then? Is it any chemist? Is anyone eligible? Tell me more!!0 -
Just googled it and looks as though it's only certain locations, typical nothing down my way0

My Dr told me about it when I registered Poppy. Ah, thats shame. I assumed it was a national thing?
I have just found this thread from last year...

some pcts take part, i work in a tesco pharmacy up north and we do this, it's also known as a minor ailements scheme.
the exemptions are the same as a prescription, so kids, tax credits etc.
anyone is eligible but if you don't get free scripts then you have to pay £6.85 to use it, and is usually cheaper to buy the stuff.
here in manchester it's for things like teething, cough, colds, constipation, fever, headache etc. it's basically to stop you going to the gp for trivial stuff, but you still get free medicines0
