I am - probably in 2009 as the two year gap between my sons was nice. I'm 32 now and hubby is 34.
Hi Mazcabs - pleased to see you and your new son.
I think you just have to take each day as it comes and do what you feel best as regards bottle and breast milk. Sometimes it's kinder to admit your body can't give the baby the nourishment they need and it's better for them to be on formula. I went through this with Charlotte when she was 5 months and my breast milk wasn't enough for her. It was the difference between an unsettled hungry baby on breast milk or a happy contented baby on bottles, so I stuck with the bottles. It was sad having to stop, but better for her that I did. Here I go again on my own....0 -

I have a question about ME ME ME!:D Dry skin - is this normal and please please temporary? I have found my skin to be stupidly dry ever since the 'birth' to the point that my face feels like sandpaper and will not moisturise, my hands do not respond to my usual doses of vaseline intensive care and forunately I do not have to worry about the rest of me as it is winter
. Might this be temporary - has anything like this happened to you girls? Or do I have to do research into moisturisers?
Agutka
Who used to have oily and definitely easier to look after skin...
PS - How does J know when I am trying to do something? Babies have very annoying 'parent trying to do something' radar... That cry is definitely not anything serious...sigh...:wall:0 -
I've come to the conclusion that they just make things up to fit with whatever weaning advice they give. My health visitor said 4-6 months and that they'd increased it to six because they did a piece of research which showed that "some breastfed babies" could last till six months and also that early weaning was assosciated with obesity. The Bounty book lists all sorts of reasons why it reckons you should wean no earlier and no later than six months including that that the average baby gets their first tooth at six months (
does that mean you should wait if your baby hasn't got teeth? or start at birth if they're born with teeth?!?) Some research done in Italy contradicts the thing about iron and the American Academy of Pediatrics says babies are ready at "about" six months but can be as early as four or as late as eight.
As long as you are doing what you think is best for your baby then that's all you can do (and don't tell your HV if you're ignoring their advice).0 -

Evening everyone.
hope all the beautiful babies are doing well. I have had a bit of a rough week as my midwife appointment wasn't as plain sailing as expected. My blood pressure is low and i've lost 9 pounds since falling pregnant. Also, when she came to look for the heart beat it took her a good 5 minutes and i went into flap mode.
bailey - i'm thinking of you. Charlie has had some bad sleepless nights recently through teething, so i know sort of how you are feeling. The tiredness definitely makes me feel more unable to cope than what i would normally feel. Nappy bag - charlie had a kipling one, so i am just going to reuse that one, although i know what you mean about space. I'm sure that i saw one that fits double buggies that was bigger in mothercaremaybe that is the sort of thing you have in mind. sorry you have felt unwell and had extra worry.
breastfeeding - i struggled last time till Charlie was about 14 weeks. Fully breast fed till about 11 weeks, but then so grumpy and hungry all the time that i went to expressing and alternating with formula. I wish i had gone for breastmilk followed by a couple of oz of formula though instead of alternating bottles as i am sure i made it harder for myself. I will have another crack at it this time, but if it is a problem, i have no qualms about going to formula, as it will be me who feels ill and stressed if it isn't working. DH will try to help but they don't understand the sore boobs and extreme tiredness.I also know i didn't eat properly last time as i didn't have time to make anything i fancied, so i just ate rubbish. So that is the 2nd part of my plan as i will have to sort out charlie something so i might as well eat the same.
I am going to solve one of my big problems this weekend as i will be swapping my trusty fiesta for a skoda fabia which has 5 doors, so i won't have to climb into the back of the car with charlie to get him in the car seat. It is getting harder now my bump is growing.
teething i have been giving charlie a 5ml dose of calpol and a 5ml dose of neurofen. I really don't like giving too much calpol as the parecetomol worries me, but this seems to be giving him good relief. The offending tooth was poking through the gum this evening, so hopefully the worst is over for us now, although i did do a dose of neurofen before bedtime tonight to settle him as he was whingy.
oh, also that photo of poppy in the pumpkin outfit was scrummy.

I am co-sleeping with DS, most night feeds don't even require me to open my eyes unless we're uncoordinated and get in a muddle
Any other co-sleepers?
Hi fac73
I haven't seen this thread for a few weeks so nice to see some familiar names over from the pregnancy thread.Glad your little boy arrived safe and well.
I co-slept with my baby from birth until he was just over 3 months. I couldn't faff about getting up and down in the middle of the night and he didn't ever really settle in his moses basket.
I found co-sleeping excellent for the first couple of months and got lots of sleep. As soon as he went for the vast majority of the night (through till about 5am) without feeding, I moved into his cot in his own room. He's been sleeping through most nights since then (with the odd exception when he wakes about 4ish but settles straight back down.)
He's now 4 and a half months and a really happy contented baby! :T He rolled over from front to back three times on Halloween but has steadfastly refused to do it at all since then!
Started weaning last weekend (just baby rice and apple so far). I personally think the new guidelines are more to do with obesity than anything else. He's definitely ready for solids - can swallow well and has had no problems. Personally, I'd rather start at just over 4 months and then take it steady with weaning rather than leave it until 6 months and be anxious about how much he is/isn't eating!
I'm still breastfeeding. Little one feeding well and I'm planning to continue until he's established on a cup and miss out the bottles altogether. I've been expressing milk for baby rice and it's such a faff sterilising all the stuff! Mazcabs - I think the first few weeks of breastfeeding are by far the worst and it is a bit of a shame to go through that and not have the benefit of breastfeeding at its best! In the long-run it is so much more convenient. The best remedy for low supply is just feeding the baby whenever they show signs of hunger and letting them feed lots and lots until the supply builds up! You've just got to do what you think best for you though!
I bought some of those Lilypadz breast pads as I keep waking up soaked in the morning with baby sleeping through. Not getting on very well with them yet though! Don't find that they stick to my skin as they're supposed to do so an expensive mistake so far!Has anybody else tried them? Any tips?!
I've had a quick look back through the thread but haven't read all the posts so hope everybody else and their little ones are doing okay! Hope to get back on this thread regularly. (Have been distracted by a moneymaking challenge over on DFW as I'm down to SMP this month and all the main bills are due!!)Just had to pay for an MOT/service at nearly £400 as well as home insurance.
Thankfully, I've got this site and Quidco to see me through the next few months of penny pinching!0 -
Just a quickie to say that Home Bargains have the NUK transtional cup (soft spout that needs very little sucking, bottle shaped cup with detatchable handles) for 99p!
I got one yesterday and........Natasha drank a fluid ounce of expressed milk!!! :j :j (doesn't sound like much but anyone who has listened to me moaning about sore boobs and Natasha refusing a bottle for the last 3 months will know what a breakthrough this is for us!)
Oooooh, and she crawled this afternoon too....noooooooo ......she's too young!! With DS I was dying for him to do new things, but I just want Natasha to be a tiny newborn for ever.....:o"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
