I have a very important question re replacement driving licences
I was forced to spend my hard earned income on replacements about 3 years ago.
I passed my driving test in 1981 but nowhere on the new paper "counterpart" does it mention the fact that I even passed my test or the groups of vehicles that I am entitled to drive - all that it says is "provisional entitlement categories GH" with the date of my 17th birthday to my 70th birthday
(The plastic card has the groups correctly)
Is this correct ?
Yes. Counterpart lists only provisional categories (for most car drivers that's A, GH - motorbikes, roadrollers and tanks - unless other provisional categories have been applied for like buses and lorries).
Do you have a full motorbike licence too? If not then the DVLA has missed provisional A off, but if you've no intention of riding one I suppose that doesn't really matter.0 -
Hi, i had a car accident this week and have sincerealised my photo had expired on 2nd August when I was looking to use one of the pool cars for work. It was an at fault accident and my car is a write off. Will this affect my insurance. I haven't said anything to them yet. I have now sent off for a renewal.
Really worried.0 -

Yes I do have a full bike licence too - they HAVE missed that out - but as you say - I will never ride a motorcycle again - but this worries me - how can they miss this out ?
I may raise it with DVLA !!0 -
I work as air crew and being without my passport is impossible. Can anyone think of a way around this hurdle? DVLA apologies, but has no solutions. Thanks!
Alan
I'm surprised you haven't got two passports. Globetrotters often have two beacuse:
1) one is often at some embassy or another having a visa stamp added and 2) some arab states used to (possibly still do) refuse to accept any passport with an Israeli visa stamp in itWe need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Nothing to worry about - your entitlement to drive is shown on the BACK of your licence and normally lasts until you are 70, regardless of the date of the photocard on the FRONT
Ignore all the scaremongering about invalid insurance just because your photocard has expired. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

The licence is in two parts. The counterpart shows information that isn't required (or there is no room for) on the main licence. As long as the plastic part shows the correct groups you're fine.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

I meant if you don't have a full motorcycle licence then you should have a provisional motorcycle licence (A) listed on your paper counterpart.
As long as you have A listed on the photocard then they've not missed it off.0 -
How far in advance can you renew your photoccard licence? THANKSWhat goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
"A DVLA spokesperson told us: "Appearances can change, and it's important that photo card licences are updated every ten years."
Cutting through that bull what they really mean is:
"We would like to make millions of pounds out of the motorist by charging them all £20 every ten years".
I'm keeping my paper licence for as long as I can!0 -
I got my reminder and duly went off to post office to get it updated thinking I'd use the photo booth and then send it off. The booth cost £5 for the pictures so I went for the option of them sending it at £4.50 all recorded and tracked and they did the photo included in that price.
i did the same and on the form it quoted 21 days for the licence to come back did it at the PO and came back after 9 days
BTW mine was 2.5 years out of date, and wasn't going to renew but need it for the naughty drivers course in novembersealed pot challange 5 member 1478 £0/£200
