  • How can I contact DVLA without using up my call minutes listening to rubbish musac?
As a 69 year old, I am being ignored during this pandemic.Too old to qualify for support and too young to die.

some enquiries might be sent my email or webchat
  • I have a query that I cannot find an answer to.
First of all, a fact     It is illegal to drive on a UK licence if the address is out of date.
I am now a French resident and wish to drive my French registered, CT'd and insured car back to the UK. My licence has my old UK address.
I cannot apply for a French licence because the French say my UK licence is valid in France and will not change it unless I incur a penalty.  I can't get a response from DVLA.
  • Just to add, I have now received a reply from DVLA (marked dvladonotreply) which simply sends me back to square one with a link I have already followed.  I also generated a GOV.UK survey  and received a message saying they had nothing to do with DVLA.
    The system is somewhat lacking.

Your licence is valid until your 70 (unless you have been banned), you only need to update your photo licence.  So when possible renew your photo driving licence from an address you can be contacted at.

That is not a fact. It is an offence not to notify a change of address, but that does not make the licence invalid.

Hi, Quick Question - I had my driving licence (and wallet + rest of contents) stolen a few days ago, so I need to replace my belongings. Can I renew it, even though it had 6 years or so to run? Seems like the sensible thing to do, as it will add a few years on.

I have checked mine and it run out in Jan 21, however I am moving in 2 months.  Best to wait and change both address and picture then?

It doesn't cost anything to change the address, so best to renew now, then update the address when you move.

If you don't, you risk a fine for not renewing if you happen to be stopped for any other reason.

My wife just received a totally baffling letter from the DVLA dated 6th May 2020, informing her that her photocard driving licence will expire on 1st July.

In fact the photocard licence shows it doesn't expire for many years yet. Anyone else getting similar bizarre letters?
