    HI there,
Just a quick question.. I've tried searching an can't find a suitable answer.
I have an old paper driving licence and haven't changed the address for 4 years. I have looked at the online DVLA site to change to a photo and update it but it asks how long I have been at my current address... so... if I fill this in can they fine me for not updating my address?

I think this is going to be a bit of a hassle as I don't have a new passport either...
So my other question is ... would I be better just getting the pack from the post office and renewing/replacing it that way?

Thanks for any comments / answers
  • Many years ago, I thought I'd lost my plastic driving license and got a replacment, which had the 10 year expiry date. I then found the the original license, which only expires when I turn 70. Is it still valid? Can I use it safely when I go on holiday & hire car on the continent?.
  • Hi All,

I haven't been driving for the past few years, opting for public transport instead, so let my licence expire without renewing it. Would it be the same procedure to renew it now as a standard renewal? Having read the article of the main site, I'm now worried I'll be classified as a late renewer and fined...is this the case or does the fact that I haven't been driving count?

    Cheers.
  • I lost my provisional licence and u need to know where online:eek: I would go to check when it had expired.
  • Hi got a question. I had my licence renew ed at the post office in one of there dvla booths. My ? Is is the post office supposed to keep hold of your old license.
  • I got a new one from the DVLA in December. They used my passport photo but reproduced it so poorly that it is almost impossible to identify the person on it. 2 dots for eyes and a line where my mouth is. I was amazed that they issued it. It is obvious that no human being was involved in the process.
  • My husband renewed his last week (no changes) and has been charged £84 and we can't figure out why??

Did he perhaps accidentally renew it through one of the scam look-alike sites that abound on the internet? You must make sure that the email address ends with ".gov.uk" then you won't be ripped off.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

If you just google "renew driving licence" the first couple of pages are all rip-off sites that take a wad of cash off you and then apply to DVLA for you.

Same happens with birth certificates, the web sites looks like they are the official Government one, but they charge £25 and it is only £11 if you walk into the correct registry office and ask.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • If part 4b on your licence states that your licence has expired this may NOT be the case. It may only be certain groups which have expired. For example, you may no longer wish to renew your LGV entitlement, all other groups remain in force. I have been assured that this is the case by police on advice of DVLC.
