I understand that, but nurses get 20 odd grand a year less and they're the ones saving lives and have to deal with people in all sorts of messes from various accidents etc, daily. Not *might have to*.

Tell me about it as Im a retired Midwife (ill health not age). I guess the train driver has so many people's lives in his hands and he/she lives with the daily fear. I met a tube driver who now works with people with suicidal thoughts and he gave me such insight into his job. Ive long stopped judging people by how much they are paid as there is no rhyme nor reason to it!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning all!

I am now into week two of rest following a fall down a whole flight of stairs at work. This morning I shall be going to the GP as, despite him signing me off until Wednesday to return on Thursday, my manager is pressuring me to return. I can understand it though as I've had more time off work than at work due to one thing and another (illness and maternity leave) over the last 20 months. Since I can't walk well at all and the most comfortable position for me is laying on the sofa or bed (still not comfortable) my friend has offered to drop me off after she does the school run. After that I have a CT scan to try and see if we can find out why I get such frequent headaches/migraines/sinusitis and dizziness.

Once the DH and DS are up I will be putting a load of washing on, it looks like today is going to be the last day to be able to hang it out for some time. I couldn't believe how quickly it dried yesterday!

Had a bit of a muck up with DH's wages on Friday so we've not been able to do a proper weekly shop still.

SDG what you did sounds like something I would do. Unfortunately I have been stung a lot over the last year so have had to reign in my niceness. My DH said similar to me once that my kindness was part of the reason he fell in love with me.

glitzer, hope you are feeling better soon and that the visit to the GP goes well. I don't know what kind of work you do but if your work involves a lot of standing up don't return to work to early if you are going to be in a lot of discomfort, it's not worth it.

Aw Glitzer you poor thing. :( I hope you feel better soon and get good results from your tests.

They can't come to repair my washer until 17th October. icon8.gif I am not amused. It seems to work at higher temps so I am still getting the basics washed, just not as cheaply as when i use the eco cycle.

Really, really stormy again here. Has been since yesterday morning and showing no sign of letting up. Rain forecast for the rest of the week and snow on the higher ground around us. :rotfl:We appear to be hurtling headlong into winter. :D

    Have lovely days everyone :).

Huge warm hugs to those who need them ((((((((((( :) )))))))))))))))) and I hope ill folks feel better soon.
Like HJ, still very stormy here. Last night the winds caused a fair bit of damage here, and as it's still bad out there we can't go out to check it. Tail of the hurricane though, so I guess it's expected. Still sucks!
    :D
I had three hides strung out on square frames leaning against my outbuilding. I forgot to take them indoors before the winds rose, and of course looked out the window at one of them sailing through the air like a kite to land in the field! Got it back in...took three of us though....but wow, those strong gusts, even for these parts. Hens are all disgruntled at having to stay indoors, but tough, if I let them out they'll take off for Canada!
Everyone stay safe and keep warm and feet on the ground.

Good to see you back Red Doe. :kisses3: Hope you are feeling much better and that which I know you were dreading wasn't as bad as expected. ;)

No flying hides in my garden but the trees and greenhouse look a bit worse for wear. I know we get autumn storms up here but I don't remember it being this relentless before. :(

 Good grief!!!!!!!!! Hurricanes and SNOW?!?!

It never ceases to astonish me that we can have such variety of weather on one relatively-small island. You ladies up in Scotland take good care of yourselves and your hennies.

I'm feeling a little bit tired today but very happy; had a riotous assemblage of the gang yestereve (wine-free I hasten to add) and it was an absolute scream........:rotfl:Good mates matter.

The weather is Provincial City is calm, with a clear blue sky with a tiny amount of very high cirrus cloud. Temperature wise, we tend to get what Lunnon Town gets, although we're not near the capitol. Never know why that is so. Yesterday I had my flipflops on (and today I have sore toes from the toe-post and can remember why I don't usually wear them out). After nearly 4 decades of intermittant flipflopping, you would have thought I would have learned my lesson. I guess I'm just an optimist - or daft.

Well, I'm on Day 4 of my self-organised Not Buying Food unless it's milk or really-really necessary October Challenge. I have lots of home-frozen veggies from the lottie (french and broadbeans and peas) and larder stuff and tinned tomatoes (:o) and more pasta than a small Italian province so should be able to manage inventively and will use the cash saved to finish the C*mas shopping (sorry!).

Have found out last night that a favoured author is giving a talk in town tonight and will aim to get a (very cheap) ticket for that as I think it'll be entertaining. Can't say exactly who as it would reveal exactly where I am, but I'm pretty excited.;) Happiness.......

((Hugs to everyone)) and I hope Glitzer's tests don't find anything too horrible (just something easily-fixable so you can feel better).

Hope the author thing goes well. Surprised that there will be a charge for that?? I've just gone to listen to an author giving a talk once (more to see what these type of occasions are like than owt....) and it didnt cost anything. Coulda been because it 'twas in a bookshop and maybe yours isnt..

Re flip-flops - I've gotten rid of a rather expensive pair before now (darn new Birkenstocks) because the bit between the toes wouldnt stop rubbing. I've got a couple of other makes that are fine though. Having said that - I wished I had kept those Birkenstocks when I subsequently realised that manufacturers have started making little "slip over" things to put on said toe-thongs to stop them rubbing and I would have bought a pair and at least tried to see if they worked. Think they are in the Scholl range of foot products if memory serves me aright??

Though maybes my feet "cope better" with flip-flops because I spent some time wearing them A LOT as a kid....?

EDIT: Just had a quick check - and obviously I "got off lightly" in having a free author talk then...as I've spotted that £3 or £5 often gets charged for these things. Will cross fingers its the £3 mark for you then...(could be part of the "A lot of things that used to be free are now chargeable trend" I've noticed...

Bit blowy here as well and amazing how cold it got. House is very draughty - all doors & windows rattling like mad. Am on Amazon today looking for any 1p books on self sufficicency or growing veg or or hens... mine seem to stop laying the minute they stop stuffing their wee faces. RV says at this rate it would be cheaper to feed a rottweiler.
Got a few things to get next week and that's me set for winter. Still need a sack of layers mash, a costco box of cat food, few bottles of cooking oil and a sack of tatties. I found a farm suppliers selling local tatties at £5 a sack, so will get another one and keep it in the cool airy back room.
We cleaned and filled the paraffin lamp and I was amazed at how nice a light it gives - much better than candles. But paraffin was £6.99 for 4L which makes it dearer than petrol !! That will live on the bog windowsill and we can just light it in powercuts and leave it there.

Just popping back to say hello to Kimsmum. Is it today that your son goes back to Australia? Thinking of you anyway and hope you had a lovely time with him while he was back home. xxx

Have fun at the talk tonight GQ.

Ta for the pm RedDoe. Stay warm and dry and don't blow away

A million errands to run today and no motivation to do so. Any stray kicks up the backside gratefully recieved. No hobnail boots though please. :D
