I had a car accident this evening. Someone drove into the back of me on a roundabout. Gave me nasty whiplash. I had stopped because the car in front was turning into a road immediate right just at the mini roundabout. I am not sure he should have done that because there was a white stripey triangular bit in the road from the bollard in the middle of the road so it made his turn very sharp but I was not too close so I was able to stop but the man behind hit my car very hard. When I got out he said something was wrong with his clutch. Anyway I have his details so dh has instructed me to ring the insurance company as well as the doctors.
I think I will be scared to put my head out the bedcovers tomorrow as this is the second thing to go wrong.

Grandma247, sorry to hear about your car accident. Scary stuff. Hope you feel a bit better soon. Sending you a hug.

I'm afraid I'll have to fold. At present rather than working to build up stores I'm working through them. Went grocery shopping today, and bearing in mind I only buy the cheapest own brand (unless another brand happens to be on special and is cheaper than that), and all that I bought was a few store-cupboard staples really, no meat and very little fruit and veg, I nearly collapsed at the $75 bill. Some of the stuff will last the whole month, but it seemed pretty extortionate.

I need a good sit down to work out what changes I can make to our grocery habits.

Did anybody else see the front page of the Guardian today -is on the Sky News site at the top. Says 50% of all donations to the Tory party since the election came from the City....

Well - in truth...bribe or no bribe...the Labour Party did pretty well by the bankers Mardatha...

I'm still havering on whether to give up reading the News altogether these days - its just so depressing.

But - fer now - I alternate between The Guardian, the financial pages of the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail.

Gives a "politically correct take on the news" (ie "The Guardian"), some financial titbits (the "Daily Telegraph") and some pretty good financial analysis to be able to work out which way the "cookie is likely to crumble" (ie "Daily Mail") respectively.

Admits to starting to get a bit fed-up with "politically correct" these days...chez ceridwen its still a case of its:

    - the wrongdoer is the one "in the wrong" and my sympathies will be firmly with the victim and I expect police to BE police (bring back the 1970s...LOL), etc.

    - AD and BC (I've spent ages trying to figure out what was meant by CE and BCE - and never DID manage it....:rotfl:until the BBC row about it)

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I still have a houseful of guests so this is just a flying visit. :D

I'm thoroughly enjoying having family here and it's been great craic. The weather here is up and down so although it is unseasonably warm we aren't getting the sun you are down south. Torrential rain all day yesterday and looks like showers at the least today.
We've been lighting the new stove in the evenings and the hot water is produces is wonderful so no more immersion heater for us. :j As we'll probably not need the air source heating now either and all of our wood is free I'm hoping to get the leccy DD down from £139 per month!!! The gas is only used for the cooker and that's about £40 per quarter.

Rosanna I'm so sorry aboput your cat. :(
Grandma 247 take it easy after your accident. x
Nice to see you back ScottishMinnie. :hello:
Glad you got a few things sorted drinkuppretty.

Have lovely days everyone and don't let the barstards grind you down.

Glad to hear you're all having a great time....wish I could have managed to be there too. I hope the weather stays good for your visit to the island. :)

I've had a twelve day stretch at work and have two days off before another twelve day stretch and I'm exhausted but because I've become used to it I was up bang on 6am as usual. So after waving Mr Pink and the boys off to rugby practice I decided to make a start on clearing the kitchen cupboards. Not a fun job at the best of times. ;) Just taking a coffee break now and then I'll get on with the rest of it. DD is back on Monday night and has a month before she starts work so we are planning an 'autumn clean' before winter sets in properly. Right, better get on with it.....

I really must get dressed. So, it's October, i must need jeans, long sleeved t shirt, jumper, socks and boots - yes?

    NOOOOOOOOO :T:j:beer:

THis weather can stay as long as it likes - I LOVE IT (sorry for those who haven't got it :o)

Like Ceridwen, I believe that Quantitative Easing cannot be too far away, so tighten your (seat) belts even more folks, it's going to be a bumpy ride. Unlike some (tho I do understand the ostrich approach) - i want to know exactly what is going on with the economy, forewarned is forearmed and all that, knowledge is power. I feel like we are all on a ship, being steered through a nasty ice field with no-one really in the crows nest watching where we're going. I think it's only a matter of time before we hit that iceberg.

I work in construction which is always first in - last out of a recession (albeit I teach, but then we still suffer as companies aren't employing trainees to send to us). There is growth but it is fractions of a percentage.

But the sun is shining and i am going to tackle the garden and bed it down for the winter. Picked the last of the runner beans yesterday, am picking the last of the tomatoes today. Many have surprisingly turned red, but the green ones are going into chutney. I think i could go into business selling the chutney as those i've given a jar too have been very enthusiastic. My pepper plant and chilli are coming into the conservatory - last years chilli lasted all year and is a lovely pretty plant to have in your house. I have washing drying on the line and we are having a barbie tonight.

Right, this won't get the baby a new bonnet, as my mum used to say. Have a good day, all - whatever the weather!
I wanna be in the room where it happens
