Rosanna, I am so sorry to hear of Jennicats passing. At least she will be with her brother now. It is so painful when they go. When Orange Cat passed I was unsure about having another one. Then the vet phoned my then husband and said they had a stray and would we like her - and The Fat Knacker was mine! :D I love her socks off and will be devistated when the time comes.

And remember, she was not just a cat but was part of the family and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Who are we to say we are more important than any other animal?

Am thinking of you today. Take care xxx

Oh and I dont mean to make you cry, but you will and I hope this will ease the ache. Someone shared this with me when I lost Orangie. http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm Even now I fill up. xx

Rosanna - have been thinking of you at such a sad time sending hugs.
  • Rosanna - so sorry to hear about Jennicat. So many people don't realise how much part of the family our pets are. I don't have any pets at the moment and I alternate between wanting one deparately and remembering how hard it is when they leave us.

I feel a bit stupid today. Amongst the mail when I got home earlier in the week was a booklet of T*sco money off vouchers. I don't do any considerable amount of shopping at Mr T and haven't done for a while but I thought that given their current price promotion hype I would shop there this week and use the £4 off a £30 spend they had sent me.
I bought virtually the same as I do in A*da each week with the addition of 2 tins of biscuits which totalled £8 so as my shopping normally costs between £25 and £30 I guessed the biscuits would take it over that and mean I could use the coupon. I couldn't believe it when the checkout operator announced the total of £54. Even with the coupon it was over £50:eek::eek::eek: Now there is nothing in there that I wouldn't normally buy (apart from the £8 biccies).

Of course, because I bought the biscuits which were on offer the price match thing won't work but I feel like a complete idiot to have been fooled by the money off coupons. Needless to say the other 5 went straight in the bin. I'm always so careful about my grocery shopping and then I go and do something as incredibly dumb as fall for this which wipes out weeks of savings. I'm so angry with myself.

I'm off to bed now - hopefully I'll be more alert and with it tomorrow.

  • Rossana hugs for you. It is never easy even when you know it has to come.
It took me the best part of a year to get over loosing our little dog and we never did replace her.

I had a car accident this evening. Someone drove into the back of me on a roundabout. Gave me nasty whiplash. I had stopped because the car in front was turning into a road immediate right just at the mini roundabout. I am not sure he should have done that because there was a white stripey triangular bit in the road from the bollard in the middle of the road so it made his turn very sharp but I was not too close so I was able to stop but the man behind hit my car very hard. When I got out he said something was wrong with his clutch. Anyway I have his details so dh has instructed me to ring the insurance company as well as the doctors.
I think I will be scared to put my head out the bedcovers tomorrow as this is the second thing to go wrong.

A big thank you to everyone for their kind thoughts and hugs. I remeber reading the Rainbow Bridge poem when Jenny's brother died in 2009. It is a comfort.

Much to do around the house and garden over the weekend but will still find time to sit and remember a dearly loved family member.
    Thanks once again

(((hugs))) Rosanna, Jennicat was a very lucky cat indeed to have such a loving home. If I could come back as anything it would be as the pet of an OS'er. You're all such loving animal owners.

Sorry to hear of your car accident Grandma, do get to the doctors though and checked out, whiplash can be very painful.

I amazed our upstairs neighbour with our electricity bill, it was lower for us than for her. She was quite indignant, given there's only 1 of her, but 2 of us, and that she has a pensioners discount. But as I explained, we never heat or cool our unit, we shower together :o (to save money naturally...), if I bake, I bake a tableful at once, though we have more electronic gadgets, they're always switched off when not in use. We're never on direct debit, hubby amuses me with his bill paying, he leaves it to the last possible day and pays by bank transfer, meaning they don't have the money a second more than it's due. He keeps a calendar reminder for the purpose.

Problem is, no-one will do anything about it. We'll all just sit here moaning about it on the interweb. It's over two years before another election and who will we vote for then? All the parties are the same, they just have different names.

Just write 'fed up' across the ballot paper and send it back, let them sort it out.

:) Good morning campers, from the sunny side (sorry, Ireland and Scotland, have heard what you're due to get today).

Yesterday was unreal; 28 degrees outside and 30 degrees in the office (we have a thermometer). Very very enervating weather but so lovely to see the clear blue skies and people out in their summer duds again brightening the streets. Sort-of a mitigation for the appalling chilly grey sludgy August. It all shortens the winter and saves on the futility bills.

Interesting to hear about other peoples' usages and payment plans. I'm a singleton in a teeny-tiny flat and am using 2.5 kWH of electricity per 24 hours which is up from 1.7 this time last year. I blame my PC as I'm always on here.;) Seriously, haven't had any other purchases or lifestyle change to account for it so it must be the forums.

:) Hello, my username is GreyQueen and I am an MSE addict.

Still, never mind the fun; I reckon I can defray the electricity costs against the money-saving tips obtained.:rotfl:

My gas central heating is running off a centralised system and is payable as a weekly rent charge, so I have no say in how much I get charged (we have had 2 minor price hikes since Jan and I am paying nearly double what I paid 5 years ago). Wish the wages went up as much as the bills. Or went up at all IYSWIM.

I do have a gas bill (gas cooker) which is the only thing attached to the meter and that is using 2 kwh per 24 hrs up from 1.3 this time last year. That is really foxing me. I'm very careful with the gas; only filling the kettle to the minimum, using the 3 tiered steamer, cooking pasta etc passively, turn stuff off before time to finish on residual heat, rarely have the oven on and cook several things at once if I do........it's perplexing how the bills mount up.

In my old flat, I was with Powergen (now E.on) on a dual-fuel bill with quarterly variable DD; pay for what you've used 4 times a year. Suited me fine. Then I moved and contacted them to have a contract at this flat and the fashion had changed since I'd set up the previous contract- it was all this ruddy monthly DDs. I knew I was a very light user (summer quarter bill at old address with a combi gas boiler used to be about £17) and that the beggars would set the thing too high.

I kept repeating to the call-centre; "No, I want a quarterly variable DD not a monthly DD." I was like a stuck record and the bloke at the other end of the phone set up what I wanted in the end.

This way I have the convenience of the DD (and the discount :)) without having to pay in advance and bother my little head about credit or debit balances on my fuel accounts. Plus my dosh is in my current account earning 5%, he he.

Rosanna ((hugs)) on the loss of Jennicat. Cats are people (as are other pets) and should be mourned properly. I still get a bit teary if I remember beloved pets long gone. Be kind to yourself.

Well, the last of Mr Pumpkin was made into soup and was very good and I still have some left for another 2 nights. The giant pumpkin was a gift from Nan but if I buy one, it'll be a much-smaller one or a joint purchase to share with a pal or they just hang around forever. Wish I'd had more freezer space but my tiny counter-top model is chocka and I can't get anything else in. Otherwise, it would've been pumpkin pies and pumpkin breads etc etc.

I lucked out at the Magic Greengrocer yesterday and came away with a bag of pears, a bag of oranges and a carrier bag of Victoria plums (4 kilos) for a single measley squid. I have become GreyQueenVictoria and have been sharing the largesse with friends and Mum will take a lot of my hands today and the rest will be stewed. I was stuffing my face with them yestereve, I do like a Vickie plum. Shame this is the end of their season.

Have a good day everyone. I shall be getting hot and mucky on the allotmentino with my slaves (hi Mum and Dad, glad you came over!)

ETA Grandma247, how are you feeling today? Hopefully not too sore.
