It was getting tough in 2006 and the workhouse still threatens us in 2011

Love it, though I would have orientated it so the front faced south not north, and put a overhang in to shelter the front from the summer sun.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Oh I am so jealous of that family and their beautiful house!
Charlie's aunt I imagine by now that you have been to the vet'sI am sending hugs your way that you can grieve in a healthy way, and don't let anyone tell you 'it was just a cat'. The depth of grief we feel when a pet dies is a measure of how much we loved them.
I start work next week :T but I'm a bit scared of how much energy it is going to take. So I may not be able to post much and keep up to date on this thread; I'll still be popping in though. I'm hoping to save up for a new bike, as mine is 12 years old and built from steel and very heavy. I see all the young things on their streamlined cycles which are bigger but lighter than my bucket of bolts and think how much faster I could go if I wasn't carrying half the Forth bridge with me :rotfl:Naturally I will wait until the January sales, though.
The work will start to peter out in March/April but I seem to be able to make ends meet most of the time. That's probably because my ends aren't very long, though!Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Fab news Smileyt - really pleased for you. It takes a bit of getting used to something new, new routine etc but you'll get there. Remember to get enough sleep and eat your greens!

Time for a well earned cuppa, having spent the last couple of hours juicing lots of beetroots and ending up with a red spotty kitchen, everything I touched got red. I am cleaned up now and made 2.5 litres of beetroot juice, which is packed in the freezer. Athletes love it since there was an article about it increasing stamina, I don`t know why dh didn`t take my word for it years ago.
I`m awfully late putting the last wash out but the machine has been
GQ thanks for your last minute beetroot sowing tip, in july I think. I have had great results and a lot of very respectible beetroot still to harvest, which will get bigger now that we are going to have an indian summer of sorts. Turnips also great and lots harvested ready to de-hydrate tomorrow and lots still in the groundMy pleasure, Kittie; mine are tiddly but I am hoping the last dregs of autumn sunshine might beef them into something usable. I has been a truly tiresome growing season with late frosts and a 4 month drought and just every darned thing which could go wrong, going wrong.
However, to be a gardener is to be an eternal optimist, and I am already making plans for next year and will indeed be up there within the hour to squeeze in a little weed-wrangling before supper.
Smileyt congrats on new job and may the tides of fortune sweep an affordable lightweight bicycle towards you soon.
charlies-aunt, ((hugs)) about your old cat; I had one summer when I had to walk that walk with 3 beloved moggies' 2 of mine and one for an elderly friend who couldn't face it (her late husband's dying words had been, "Take good care of Whiskey.") Cats are important parts of our lives, as are other beloved pets, and should be mourned.
On a lighter note, I have just revisted that giant pumpkin image and thought to myself; "What is he DOING with it?!" Answers on a postcard and keep it clean.......:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
