Well done HJ, its good to hear success stories, they do help boost us all. :)

Charlies aunt sending hugs - we visited the vet on weds with our 16yo cat, she has gone very thin etc, they have sent off blood tests and know at least her thyroid is one problem but are checking if there is any other issues, if its just the thyroid they will give her tablets - although whether she will take them is anyones guess, but they think there is other stuff and then they say we will have to decide if we want to go through numerous invasive treatments or not. We have said not - she has had a good life but would not appreciate lots of inpatient stuff. NO idea how we will explain to the kids particularly the two boys but I have started to prepare them ready.

Our tomatoes have finally started to ripen - yippee - and taste so beautiful. I took what appears to be the final courgette off the plants yesterday too.

GQ- good luck with the pumpkin - I have to say we have never tried pumpkin but am tempted to have a go his year for soups and things.

Just need the numbers to come up and am off :) You can all come and visit !
We have a Calor gas heater Nuala but it just heats the livingroom. I found a gap in my winter preps though - the box under the sink that I thought was full of candles had only half a doz in it. Trying to coax the RV into going up to Ikea for more.

I will visit! Hope your numbers come up!
Glad you have something at least but hope it is sorted soon! But am very worried about your candle situation, that's like being down to your last few tins of tomatoes!
I think I feel an Ikea trip coming on too! Athough I find their tealights rubbish - mine never burn fully and I asked why and they said they put safety retardant in. So now I buy cheap ones in Dunnes where they don't seem to care about safety and they burn better! But I like the other candles in Ikea and it's a nice day out.

GQ - I literally burst out laughing when I saw that, thank you for giving me the first laugh of the day!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Hoping I haven't posted any of this before (it's day 2 of migraine, so I'm fuzzy and have forgotten a conversation I had with hubby earlier today!)

Sorry to hear about your cat Charlies-Aunt.

GQ, my advice is to kill the pumpkin before it decides to kill you. Should you emerge the victor, I've always found pumpkin to be a pain in the bum to chop and peel, so now I just tend to quarter it and roast it. Once roasted the skin peels easily and it can then be chopped and used however you like. Another idea to enjoy is a pumpkin, potato and carrot mash with sausages.

It horrifies me looking at house prices in the UK. That delightful cottage on a piece of land there is about the same price as 3/4 of our very cheap, 1 bed flat with a combo lounge/kitchen/diner and a bathroom without room for a bath!! Still, I'm more likely to swim in the sea here. Actually, to tell the truth, I don't own a swimming costume at present, so swimming at all is unlikely.

I'm going to bed before my fuzzy rambling gets worse.

Charlie's aunt - sorry to hear about your cat. Thinking of you. Our pets give us so much love and we must do what we can for them, whatever that might be.
Kittie - am off to hunt the Christmas booze thread - between reading of your homemade wine lake and Haribo's rasp gin, I NEEEED to make my own 'stuff'. It's bringing out the creative beast in me!
Private health care - hhhmm had my own policy a few years back, down graded to another one with them then cancelled altogether. I was very lucky only to have had one consultant's in and out appt in that time which was fine but it could also have waited for NHS. It's fine paying in as long as you're happy to but premiums tend to go up when older and they don't exactly want folk registered who might need treatment - that's my take on it. We're very fortunate in this country to have the health care system that we do when you think of some other countries. I'm grateful for that.
Off to freeze portions of soup. Going to DD's and her BF's tonight for dinner yum yum.
