It was getting tough in 2006 and the workhouse still threatens us in 2011

Well have a look at this then...My daughter spotted this before she went back to uni...she says she will save her pennies for the next do-er up-er that comes up!

I know it needs work, but structurally, being a terrace, there's a house each side holding it up? How bad can it be?
But if you don't want to have to do much work and have another £65K in your budget.

This is just across the estuary from us in the village of St. Dogmaels. Most of the houses here have stunning views, being stacked up the sides of the valley. Not lots of work about, bur perfect if you are retired, or self employed with a skill that would 'move'.
Promise I don't work for the estate agents! LOL!

First house = good price (well - in my view - dont know how it compares with the area level). Character. Distinct possibilities. Cost = rewiring definitely/kitchen definitely/bathroom probably/new roof possibly/general maintenance work probably/windows quite possibly. But - nice feel.
Second house = looking good.
So - for someone who wants a terrace house style house and isnt concerned about having a garden or decent-size kitchen - then both worth looking at....0 -
He does for his latest house - it's in Pembrokeshire! About the only good thing the council has done is to embrace the concept of eco villages - see here . The NationalPark spent years trying to remove an unplanned eco house - http://thatroundhouse.info/index.htm and I think the council finally realised that what these people were doing made sense. I would give anything to live in a house like that. Not sure Mr C is with me on that one though
.
Charlies aunt - So sorry about your cat, I dread the day we have to make that trip.
Weather been much nicer today, had a lovely walk on Warbstow Bury - a perfect place for a Hobbit House!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Someone sent me the link to the hobbit house the other day and my OH has been wondering where we can build it ever since. :rotfl:
After giving the link today to that Highland estate I spent a bit longer on the estate agents sites and OH and I are going to view a house next week. It's right on the lochside, perfect size and much bigger garden than we currently have. Because it's further out of town it's not much more than our current house so would only need a small top up mortgage. We will see what we shall see.
Contrary to my moneysaving beliefs we have opened a bottle of good wine and have a ready meal type curry in the oven (a quarter of the price of a takeaway) and Tesco takeaway curries are really quite nice for a change and really very authentic.
Got the cupboard sorted out. :j 2 bags for the loft and 1 for the charity shop. OH will put the narrower shelves up tommorrow and it will just hold OH's frequently used tools (to save him rummaging in the shed), my wine making stuff and outdoor coats. (And my stash of loo rolls):D
Softstuff I hope your poor head is better soon.
Welcome back Beanrua :hello:
HOW MANY butternut squashes FTM???:D0 -
Still going off dreaming about that Galway house - library eh? You werent thinking of me and my loadsa shelves books and all were you Mardatha.
Reet - one leetle win - enough for a House 2 (if my conscience will let me have one until I am free to move....ahem....) and you can come and visit. Would need to measure out distance from the sea - whats it got to be - 150 metres isnt it to keep the insurance companies happy re flooding? Bit unsure about having 2 more bathrooms more than I need as a single person - even by the standards of bath in one and t'other as a shower room/wet room - 'tis more than I need. But - I DO get very tempted by the thought of a little land of my own/nice countryside/bit of privacy...hmmm....
NOTE TO SELF: must buy Lottery Ticket and THINK positive...'tis not like I'd keep TBH (aka "That Bl**dy House") as I so fondly refer to my present "humble abode" once I'm free to move if I want...That Galway house really DOES look seriously tempting to me....
Mind you - I think the Hobbit House is cute too - but I wouldnt consider it seriously. The Galway one though....:think:0 -

Lost my post!
Had not realised it was Lammas - very much a pioneer then, although it was people like Tony Wrench who took the flak for years.
Anyone seen Garbage Warrior - about the experimental architect of earthships and disaster housing?
There is a trailer here http://www.garbagewarrior.com/ if you want to see them in action. The tsunami house is awesome. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

St Dogs. is a beautiful little village, I'd have probably opted for there myself if there tended to be decent gardens with the houses. It's also close to both town and one of the best beaches in West Wales (Poppit sands) Average house in Cardigan itself is about £100-120K, but plenty of choice a lot lower.
But as I said, work IS an issue. Many people have more than one income source.

The first thing I thought when looking at the hobbit house was that my sis better not let my lovely brother-in-law see that as it's just his kind of thing, and he would drive her up the walls and back down about it!Glad you've managed to distract him with something more realistic for your family's circumstances.

Although i applaud the hobbit house guy, it looks too dark for me.I wanna be in the room where it happens0

I seriously dont like it. Too poky and dark and "earthy". I need to be on top of a hill.0
