It was getting tough in 2006 and the workhouse still threatens us in 2011

bonnie - no offence taken - I just think that thinking in terms of being 'better off' than anyone else is a hiding to nowhere - I'd rather work on being happy in myself and comfortable with my choices - cos if i compare myself favourably to someone they'll always be someone else to compare unfavourably with - so I just stop comparing!
Perhaps I should have re-phrased 'better off' with 'feeling happier with'?? if that makes sense
I am very happy in myself and very comfortable in my choices and feel no need to work on them; nor do I make comparisons or judgements.
jediteacher's post moved me to offer advice/information/comfort (?) to her, in a situation I had experience of. My comments were intended to be of use to her and I hope they have helped in some way. But I don't think I'll be doing so again.*If you have nothing nice to say... say nothing*"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Footwear...Fit Flops at home(because they are good for people with Scoliosis) and for work - the highest pair of heels I have!!!
If its cold then it is sheepskin slippers. They are just lush and worth every single penny...not for work you understand. :rotfl:0 -
Ive been having some real serious pain in my feet/heels, for the past 3 weeks I keep thinking that if I ignore it it will go away cos im always ill and get get up with it ...... but when I needed a wee in the night I have to slip my feet into my crocs because they seem to cushion my feet, so I made an appointment and went to see the Dr he examined my feet and said I have planta fasciitis:eek: sounds painful and it is, he gave me some excercises to do and some ointment to rub in and told me I must rest them as much as possible, I told him the only shoes I can wqear is crocs and he said they and trainers are the best for this condition because they are cushioned and shape your arch.............its a thing that a lot of woman get between the age of 40 to 60 yrs old, my mother had it real bad for a yr a long time back.....if its not better in 12 weeks he wants t o inject cortisone:eek::eek:god im gonna do those excercises 3 times a day and try my best to get them back to normal........................so tonight ive got my feet up
Ooh Shegar! I'm just (hopefully, fingers & toes crossed, throws salt over left shoulder) coming to the end of mine! 6 months, stretching 'Step' exercises, heel inserts & a few paracetomol only.
First 6 weeks or so was agony, couldn't bear to put heel down at all without the Crocs on - & I still have to use them (well - 1 actually! :rotfl:) for the middle of the night wee  & when I first get up (2 at that point!). By the time I'm coffee'd up & out the shower it's eased off enough :T to go barefoot again, although I do put the inserts in my shoes for work (most days!).
It eases a lot as the day goes on so long as you keep moving, middle of the night is worst.
Get stretching & hope it eases off soon.

My son started with Plantar, was told rest and special exercises, and ignored it while working- was on his feet for 12 hour shifts. Then he got worse and worse and was told he has Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome. Had an op on each foot to move the nerve, been off work since Nov, and is no better at all. Still in horrible pain. His work have been terrific but he can't go on like this. None of us know what to do next. So if you're told to rest the feet - DO IT !0

Could somebody give me a link to Crocs, as I dont know what they are. I might tell the son to try them. TY!0

Have a look at the blokey fit flops too Mard. They are good for a multitude of things. Birkenstocks are also good even if they do feel weird at first.0

And I'm sure they have - I was just offering a similar but slightly different perception - I think we are saying the same thing at heart.
I do understand the situation - when i was on my own with ds and we lived in a tiny house I remember a friend of his coming round and asking where the back door was - I tried to explain there wasn't one as it was a back to back house and all he asked was how do you get to the garden then - he didn't quite get that we didn't have one of those either!! I found it funny rather than embarassing.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I second the vote for fit flops. I wore them all summer, weather permitting, and they have definitely helped my lower back pain (legacy of childbirth).
Now I'm into my flat, knee high leather boots, one of 4 pairs.I wear them with jeans tucked in or skirts. Nice and comfy. No slippers at home, just fluffy socks and wellies for the garden.
Glad the wee one was fine at school Rach.
I know it's a hard one Jedi when you feel your house isn't up to scratch but please try not to beat yourself up. We live in a modest house in a good area. My girls (and I) have a variety of friends, from those in 2 bed flats to 5 bed country houses with indoor pools. All that really matters is the welcome you give them and my girls' friends don't care about the size of our bedrooms or our garden as long as I promise to make them pancakes or muffins when they visit.
I ended up having a lovely day. We had a nice wander in the woods. It was such a lovely autumnal day and we got loads of mushrooms. Our hard foraging work was rewarded by and aerial display by a pair of Golden eagles. I could have watched them all day.
Off to the big smoke tommorrow for car repairs and hoping to catch up with a lovely OSer while I'm there.0 -

bonnie_bumpkins they were of use to me and I did not take it as a generilisation (sp) just what you felt in a certain situation as I was feeling yesterday. Please don't stop offering your advice it did help me and it was kind of you to reach out to me with your own experiences and I really appreciate it.:A
Sorry, if my post caused some controvosy didn't mean it to. Just felt really down yesterday and knew you lovely people on here could relate.
It's very late now - we're up feeding the baby and I'm just waiting for the milk to warm up.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'
